down hill, tailing another car i've had my 1.4 showing 115 on the speedo

on the flat, without tailing i've had 105 ish
downhill, without tailing i've had 110 ish

nothing much changed when i put on the 15s

putting a k&n on has made acheiving these speeds much more difficult

for fuel consumption, i dunno about the effect of the wheels

taking it easy i could get 300 miles out of a tank
but with the k&n I cant seem to get much more than 250-260 now
(i count tank as when it just touches the red and that lil light comes on)

had 106 out of a spi 1-litre, on a decent hill - daresay 107 out of an mpi cant be that implausible!!

(ordinarily though, 90 is the more reasonable figure, with the odd stringing out to 95 on the flat if it's feeling perky (85 when gasping), or 100 on a milder descent)

all on bogstandard steelies though, and nowt wider than budget and midrange-branded 155s

gearing (and your choice from those gears) probably makes the difference as well ;)

Sorry that i am interrupting this thread and I know that my question have been answered loads of times but I cannot find it in the forum. What would be the best profile for a 14" rims preferibly with 185 tyres. I was thinking of Bridgestone.

You need 185-55-14 tyres. Any name-brand will be fine, some prefer one brand to another, but in the end there's not much difference.
