Gave the missus the keys to the G40 yesterday...

Post by Petrified »

Almost like a late christmas present.

Should have seen the look on her face!

Let her have a drive for half hour

Then took them back.

Nah, but seriously. I added her to my insurance. We had a 600 mile round trip today and I didn't fancy driving all of it. We took it out for a 'test' drive yesterday to get used to it and she wasted a sales rep in a mondeo!

'Makes a change from the Siecento'

I does mean that she's also insured to drive the type-r though.
Don't tell her !!

Just out of interest, does that mean you've got both cars on the same policy?

Is that possible? Can you share the NCB between them? Who's it with?

Deek
(Can you tell I'm toying with the idea of a second motor...)

The G40 is on temporary insurance with direct line.

You can have it up to 90 days per year. Other times it's locked in the garage. Only costs me around £1.80 a day to insure on top of the CTR.

That way they are both on the same policy using the same no claims. So anyone on the policy gets to use both cars.

Not ideal only 90 days per policy year but still useable. My policy renews in July then I can have another 90 days.

Ideally I would have to have 2 policies meaning I would have no no-claims bonus. But who is going to insure a G40 that way?

There are other ways around it but this works fine for now.

For instance I could swap my policy to the G40 and let the CTR be on temporary cover, I can then get another 90 days because it's a different car. But I'm not going to have the CTR uninsured even if it is locked up.

You could get around all this by having a fire/theft only policy which only costs around £50 per year. It doesnt cover you for driving the car but would insure it in the garage building up a seperate no claims. It's all a bit confusing.

Two questions

- how old are you (I guessing under 25 so a classic policy is out of the question)

- What about mirroring the no claims - some insurance companies do others don't

I'm 25.

Only have one years no claims though

Still if that one ever gets sorted out I'll be laughing.

Could be quite costly having two rapid cars. Ones a group 17 and the G40 is umm group 15 (I think??)

That's why I'll be waiting until the summer when I get another years no claims before changing it.

The g/f is 23 and has 4 years no claims still they want more to put her on the insurance. When I can get on hers for free. Not fair.

If I was under 25 there would be no way I'd be driving either car. The insurance is almost double on the G40, even more on the CTR  that's if you can find someone to insure you.

I'm supprised Direct Line were the cheapest, but I tried everywhere people suggested may be cheaper... And they wern't DL also give me a discount for cocking me about last year.

Someone drove into me a few years back and admitted it to Direct Line, but they had the paperwork lying around, I then had a claim myself and was pretty much screwed over. Then they decided the first accident from over 2 years ago!!! was not my fault, then had to pay back 1000's

So insurance has been a 'king nightmare untill last feb, when I was 25, they sorted it all out at the same time. My premium went down from £1600 to £380 now up to just under a grand. If I get my no claims back to goes to around £500 I think.

Insurance. Not really my favourite subject.

I'm happy for now but will review it in the summer.

can you not just insure the type-r yourself, and get her to insure the g40 in her name?

She would be in the same situation as me, she already has a car.
so unless she gets another could only insure it on temporary cover (she already has a car) But they wont let her because she doesn't own it.

She loves it

...You have to phone them to insure it.

I phone them, say I want to insure it for the week, I get the paperwork through.
