Do you mean the 2 pipes comming out of the park that ive circled? If so, how did you plug the hols that are left?

you need to move the circle about 6 real inches to the right. (about one inch on my monitor). You can fill the holes with suitable filler or stick a bit of tape on them (which is what I (and steve probably) did. 8)

Yep - electrical tape all the way baby!! :lol:

Still looking for a more permanent solution - but as gareth said, the throttle body elbow (tb elbow) is about an inch to the right on my monitor (the bit the big pipe is connected to other than the airbox!!)

Trace the vacuum pipe from the (now removed) warm air feed back to the throttle body elbow.

Remove the throttle body elbow (two 10mm bolts) and then prise the metal clip off the outside and remove the vacuum switch from inside.

The vacuum pipes can be removed by removing the T-piece and joining the remaining two pipes together.

Just do it and you'll see what I mean!!

ok, ive taken off the 2 pipes and the switch, covered it up with gaffer tape, and put it all back together. Im not sure about this pipe that is connected to nothing. Its then connected to a 3 way pipe joiner with 2 other pipes goin elsewhere. Digi cam has got no batteries so im resorting to paint:

The pipe ive pointed to with the arrow was connected to a pipe that was connected to the TB elbow, now its just connected to nothing and its sucking air when the engine is running. Is this right?

I think what steve said is i have to remove the part that is green in my pic and then join the other 2 pipes together, but im not 100% sure about what T piece you were talking about. Help appreciated! :)

Yeah - you've got the right idea there - just remove the green piece and join the remaining two pipes together.

Or did i just attach one pipe to the thing the other pipe was attached to - I don't remember.

Anyway - whatever your initiative tells you to do - but basically yeah!!

I take it you did actually remove the vacuum switch (the thing the pipes were connected to) from inside the TB elbow??
Sorry - it's just a little unclear from the first 10 words you wrote - I just want to make sure.

ive edited the last post, and yes, i have taken off the switch. Cheers for the help steve, ill connect the pipes tomorrow, as its absolutely freezing cold, dark and chucking it down outside :(

Could someone please point out to me were the hot air feed is, i think i removed it (the one coming from the exhaust) and also were the switch things is as well please.

BTW the bracket i got with the filter didnt fit so i am going to have to adapt it

Red=warm air intake system
yellow=cold air intake system
green=warm air intake control system, you can see the pipe tha starts where the green circle is continue in-between where the two green lines are (not the one thats just above the green lines - thats for summat else). And the big green circle indicates where the switch is (Actually inside the thing thats circled. Steve has explained it as good as anyone can.

I don't know if you can play 'spot the difference' without having a pic of the standard GT engine bay nearby - but anyway...

Basically the warm air feed came from a metal shroud fitted to the exhaust manifold (the rusty bit) and connected to the airbox (big black box on the left). It also connected to the grille area to let cold air in to mix with the warm air.

Tracing the vacuum pipe back from where the warm air feed was should take you to the throttle body elbow - this is the plastic elbow kind of in the middle at the back.

The vacuum switch is on the inside of the TB elbow where this pipe and one other connect to it.

I hope this helps. I wish I'd done a FAQ on it now!! :roll:

Right - I've dug out an old pic so you have something to compare to...

The red oval shows the bulk of the stuff I removed, whilst the blue oval shows the location of the vacuum switch, which is hidden inside the TB elbow where the pipes can be seen poking out.

By the way, what's the thing in the bottom left of the engine bay - the bit that you DO NOT remove. I could only assume it was a fuel pump - but isn't there already one at the back?!!

These modern engines really do vex me sometimes!! :roll:

yeah it could be the charcoal canister, in which case you can ditch that too, there is a connector on the pipe to the idle stabilization valve that needs blocking, the pipe that goes to the throttlebody can be removed and so can the pipe that goes to the petrol filler pipe. you then remove the canister, and if you dont like the hole thats left, ytou can get a plastic blanking plate from a post 85 mk2 which covers it.

So what does it do then?? - and how will/might removing it improve performance??

Are there any other obvious things to remove - other than the cat?!!
