Hi, my speedo on my MkII polo hasnt been forking for ages and i know its just a snapped cable - jsut been far to lazy to get round to fixing it. Can anyone point me in the right direction to go about repacing one. ie the best place to source a new one and how do actually do the job?! Any help would be very welcome!
Thanks alot, alex

Just done this on mine for the umpteenth time, it's not a hard job
Best place to get one is probably GSF (www.gsfcarparts.com), they're £8. To replace the cable, you have to remove the dashboard clocks (unbolt steering wheel, remove two screws from plastic surround, remove two screws from clocks, squeeze clip and disconnect speedo cable from rear of speedo, unplug wiring block), then you pull the cable through into the engine bay, where it runs through two panels - one through into the compartment with the battery, heater etc, and one through into the cabin of the car. Next you have to unscrew the other end from the gearbox, it's easy to see where this is. You'll probably need a big spanner to do this unless it's already been replaced with a newer one once, can't remember the size. Fitting the new one is just the reverse of the above. Let me know if you have any problems

The horn push just pulls out, lever it with a screwdriver or something. Under this there is a big nut, can't remember the size but you'll need a socket and extension bar to get to it. Get someone else to hold the wheel tightly to stop it turning (resist the temptation to use the steering lock to hold it, at least first time, the lock is fragile and the nut is very tight..), the nut will unscrew and the wheel will pull off the boss. Make sure to straighten up the wheel before you pull it off, that way you'll be able to put it back on the right way up and be sure it won't be wonky
right...all done and speedo working again...but......when ever i get to about 25mph the oil warning buzzer starts going crazy. ive checked the oil and teh level is jsut above max on the dipstick. I'm gussing its not major as i had been driving around with a bust speedo cable for a while - any idea? thanks
