HU frame

Post by n3oNx »

Hey there. For all of those you have a aftermarket unit and the frame of the radio doesn't quite fits (or look good in the center consol) i've made something that might interess you.

I did this using a plastic cover used when the cars don't have a radio (it can be bought from a VW dealer, I got mine from a scrapyard).

All I did was cut the middle of the cover. This was a little bit difficult because the plastic is somewhat thick and also because I wanted the final result to be perfect (I had to sand a lot to get it right).

Here it is:

When I put it in my car I'll take more photos (I'm doing something with the center console so probably next week only).

Cheers.

First the panel and frame were a little tight (that was n purpose) then I pick up a sandpaper and sand it until it was no rubbing. Next steap is to make a wood frame for the inside of the double din pit because it's really easy to take the radio off... to easy inded... LOL

Wow!!! Must hand it too you there pure genuis! The only reason I have never wnated to fit an aftermarket radio is because it wouldnt sit flush in the dash. But now I have seen this Im having secong thoughts! Any pictures from a distance? It asks the question why doesnt the munufactuers make something like this?

The picture that I have that is most far way (sorry for the english... :s) is this one. I'm thinking of painting the center console so that the difference become even less and also because the plastics aren't in the best condition. Here it goes.

As far as VW doesn't comercialize this kind of things is because this way they disencourage people from buying aftermarket radios.

Thanks for the reviews, with a little pacience and work everything is possible =)
