Nova Sri Vs Polo GT - just curious

Post by diablohowes »

A mate of a mate type thing has been bragging a lot about a nova SRi he has, how do they compare against the polo GT?
I'm just curious.

Never had a problem with SRis...in fact, with chip/decat/drilled airbox K&N had to back off in 3rd so I didn't hit one...

Yeah I had one years ago hmmm thinks back nearly 20 years ago

- gripped well in the corners but had a long ratio gearbox and a reluctance to rev

- sorted it though - threw and SRi 130 lump in the front and then it went just fine

Also can depend on what the Nova has had done to it.

Well as far as i know, the nova only has an induction kit. My gt is chipped and has a drilled airbox with a K+N filter.... I'll let you know how it goes.

if you're meaning the 1.6 GSi, then parkers claims 100hp for it --- which should mean GT slaughterage if driven right, if its not super heavy or very badly geared... and i bet its quite torquey too with that capacity.

(btw what was it with the old 1.2s? Only 45hp like the 1.05 polo --- and i thought we had the worst specific output in hp per litre record..)

as far as i know, its 82bhp 1.4 mpi which imo would leave it fairly even with the GT but we'll see!

yeah but how many of them are 1.0s (or the 45hp 1.2s) rebadged as something spunkier?

sure we all know people who have put GT or G40 badges on a polo that ain't all that :D

Nova GSI's are pritty quick! a mate of mine had one and it could do 120/130mph all day long! very strong engines nova's have! even the 1.2's can take a hammering!

Yeah the body wouldn't be up to much... and whats the handling like? Sure, the more recent ones will have been sorted by Lotus, but the old s**tboxes?
