Reports suggest the Golf Mk5 GTI may lose up to 55% of it's original value through depreciation over 3 years  although thats a similar story to my Polo GTI, mine was half the original list price when I bought it at 3 years old!

So basically, wait 18 months or so, and then find a looked-after example with all the toys you want and Robert is very much your brother's uncle, n'est pas?

I'd have one right now if I could afford it though :D

Yeah, you can get discounts. If you don't mind waiting, and are not too picky on which spec you go for. 55% seems a bit harsh. I don't mind waiting and not too picky so... hmm. Check my sig :P

Not just yet, but... I'm looking at June/July delivery with a refundable deposit. So if I find a better deal I'll go for it.

sounds about usual - manufacturers special deal knocking a few grand off the price (same way as mumsy got her rover) and losing around half the value over 3 years... how much are 51/01 polos and golfs now compared to new price?
