TFT monitor cleaning?

Hi guys,

Bit of an odd one this, but I was wondering what you all use to clean TFT monitors or laptop screens. as I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to try

I've got a 17" Dell flatscreen jobbie, and according to their (US-based) forums, a good method would be a flannel or cloth soaked in warm soapy water and then wrung out to remove the excess water before using the cloth to wipe down the monitor and remove smudges and smears. Haven't tried this just yet.

The alternative is to go out and buy some TFT wipes, like the ones you can get for car glass/fabric cleaners etc. Problem is I can't track them down, and via mail order its a silly amount to pay for the delivery of one tube of wipes

Anything else I can try?

I just brought some TFT cleaning wipes the other day in PC World. I think they were Â£4.99 for 100 sheets. Tried them out of my TFT screen and they worked well. They also worked well on CRT montiors. I hope this is of some help.

1 wet sheet of kitchen roll to clean and a few dry ones to dry it up always did did the job well for me ?

you mean the alcohol-soaked sanitiser / everyday wetwipes aren't good for them?

i'd go with the barely-damp water/soap solution impregnated cloth personally

though if you can get hold of some industrial / catering hard surface cleaner & degreaser that should be ok - i've seen it used daily (ok, nightly... ok ok 2 or 3 nights a week) on TFT touchscreens and not have any negative effect so long as you dont let it run (it gets under the edges and the screen might go phut) or press too hard.

a few drops of fairy in a squirty bottle, or even some mr muscle might do the job, even.

as ever ---- test in a small, non-obvious place for colour fastness first!

I plumped for the kitchen towel option in the end.. cheap and cheerful, and it worked a treat, thanks Prash
