MKIV Polo 1.3 Pedal Box

Post by dse123 »

Does the steering column have to be removed to get the pedal box out?
Does anyone have a step by step method for this job? Any help appreciated.

Dunno mate, my method was to moan at VW for about 6 months and then get it done on recall! Don't think the steering column needs to come out, but there is a bit of lower dash that needs to come off...

You sure it's the pedal box that needs doing?

Sorry i couldn't be of more help.

Yes it is definitely the box which is split so needs replacement or repair. Thanks for your reply.

Recall

Post by morrismen »

I think you need to take this up with VW customer service as the Polo GTi had a recall to replace all pedal boxes if a certain manufacturers code. If yours has this one, then VW should replace for free.

I'll answer my own question, the steering column does have to come out as it hooks around the pedal box to support tne bottom of the column. An awkward job but not too bad. Pedal box repaired with some 3mm plate and 8 5mm bolts. Total cost £3.88 for a plastic clip for the back of the brake pedal to locate the servo push rod. Took me about 8 hours.
