Polo Dunes stereo

Post by 13twelve »

what is it?

apparently its a radio/cd thats mp3 compat

but its not gamma or beta cos neither of them is mp3 compat - so what is it?

cos if i bought a mk5 polo i'd be after an OE looking radio, but i'd wanna keep the mp3 ability my pioneer unit has now.

It's a Becker unit. Very well known high quality car audio maker. Also supplies Ferrari, MB, Range Rover, etc.

If you want to keep that blue/red colour scheme going, you'll be interested in the Becker Monza 7885, which has the same colour sceme as the OEM unit. Nice 8)

Speedlaw, you wouldn't know if it is compatible with the GTi's OEM CD changer would you? That would be the icing on the cake :)

Well yeah but I don't want to waste the changer do I - I can get 6 CDs full of mp3s in there, as opposed to the 1 in the headunit :P

not for much longer mate

my new walkman:

Novatech N-Pod

20gb hard-disc mp3 player, size of an iPod mini (or -- packet of 20, deck of cards, boxed cassette etc) ... including FM radio and decent LCD backlit screen.

£128 inc VAT
£133 including delivery

building something like that into a car head unit seriously cant lead to a device over £199 once manufacturers get their minds on the job... just need to add power (in place of Li-Ion battery..) and amp circuitry really.
Right now the actual player, and a tape adaptor / line-in socket is the next best alternative.

thinking about it... the player itself is small enough that it could just slot in/out of the headunit (so you can take it away to load up), and it's USB ports could be used for hooking up to control software and a less sophisticated screen

tempted to buy a second one and try integrating it with the old blaupunkt in fact, as a tech demo (only uses 9 buttons - can directly map them) --- though that money really is earmarked for radar/laser/gps detector.

I'm not sure about the changer, AFAIK, VW selects different brands for their OEM changers but they are still compatible. Some changers are made by Sony, some by Blaupunkt. With this change to Becker, I wouldn't have a clue on what interface it has. *Sorry!

I don't know if the changer would work with the headunit or not, but if it does it almost certainly won't be able to read MP3 CD's, only CDA.

the current polo brochure says if you want a 6 disc changer in your polo dune they they'll give you a gamma stereo instead of the mp3 compat one - seems very unlikely that the OE 6 disc unit is compat.

the 6 disc changer as groovy carrot points out, wouldnt be able to play mp3s even if your head unit could.

becker units are like £400 though!

was hoping what ever they put in the dune was not so damn expensive

so y wuld any1 with a dune opt for a 6 disc?

~200 songs on a mp3 disc.
~ 120 songs on a changer.
