The custom-built Volkswagen Golf pumps out music at an ear-splitting 160 decibels - louder than Concorde taking off.

Hmmm...... Reminiscent of the twunt at (2nd) work who thinks im a "pussy" for wearing earplugs when the (deaf as a bloody post) DJ decides 11 is too quiet and takes it to 13. Haven't yet convinced him that there's nothing weak or cowardly about still being able to enjoy the music properly into your late 30s/early 40s ...... not to mention still being able to enjoy it at all anyway (or do your job - which includes some, albeit limited, modicum of verbal communication) --- that distortion sound you hear at high volumes, in the club, particularly with the treble? That's not the speakers blowing. That's your eardrums blowing... i.e. being damaged, along with the aural hairs and nerves (the treble being a lot more damaging than the bass - and also why high frequencies are the first to go). Pop a couple of Earfit protectors in and you'll find that suddenly the tunes are a whole lot clearer and more enjoyable, and often less painful. Plus you've got an improved chance of understanding whatever someone shouts to you, as they bandpass for speech.

Ahem. Contained somewhere within that is my reason for not being able to comprehend the reasoning behind this kind of numptiness (or indeed why anyone needs a soundsystem more than a few hundred watts*, plus ~500 for the sub).... You wouldn't ride along on top of a concorde engine now would you?

But then he looks like a sane man anyway doesnt he - is that a black-dyed straightjacket he's wearing? :D

* even if you have a really loud exhaust --- why arent you thrilling to the engine note then, if it actually sounds as good as you boast?
