Dilema: should I get it now, or wait two weeks for 05.
Sorry about starting a new post/thread for this.

Im in a similar spot to dougmac, we have both been waiting ages for delivery of our new polos. My delivery date has steadily slipped from middle of January to definately tomorrow. And dougmac reminded me that will all these delays, the new 05 reg is only two weeks away!
My dilema is should I pick up the car tomorrow, or should I tell the dealer to hang on to it until 1st March to get an 05 reg.
I am dead eager to get behind the wheel, since this will be my first car ever (im fustratingly carless right now), and Im trying to balance that against being sensible and waiting for an 05.
Does anyone know what the likely hit on resale value will be if I go for a late 54 rather than a 05 in two weeks?
The impatient side of me is tearing at me to go pick it up tomorrow, but then again, if I wait two weeks, it will be very cool to be one of the first with an 05 polo.
arghhh.. damn delays - if it was delivered on time I would be vrooom'ing around in bliss right now - instead of being pissed off with delays and now this nasty choice.
What would you do in my situation?

Won't it already have been registered? If not wait a few weeks, I think there would be a considerable difference between resale values. The dealer probably won't like it coz they have a target to hit but maybe you could get the throw some freebies in to make it worth your while, depends how desperate they are I suppose!
I would hazard a guess at £500.00+ the difference between plates when you come to sell.

Very helpful advice!! Thank you!
I've been given a 54 registration number already (that I used to get insurance with - 10 days to early aswell
), but Im not sure if that means its registered - since the sales person did offer to get me an 05 registration after I kicked up a bit of fuss about the delivery being delayed soo close to 05 date.
The difference in resale is less than I expected. I've already haggled off more than that with a 5% discount. On top of that they have so far offered a full tank of gas and some some mats - but with some pressure, Im sure I can get some more free stuff.
Although its only two weeks, and there shouldnt be a problem (apart from maybe a put out dealer) redoing the plate as an 05, Im still tempted to pick it up tomorrow. I've waited 3 and a half months already, and its been painful enough already - bumming lifts from friends and making my parents take me grocery shopping every weekend is very embarrasing at my age
..... but then again... brand shiny new 05.... arghh, still cant make up my mind...

Hmmm not sure if you aren't stuffed by the allocation of a 54 regSamY wrote:I've been given a 54 registration number already (that I used to get insurance with - 10 days to early aswell), but Im not sure if that means its registered - since the sales person did offer to get me an 05 registration after I kicked up a bit of fuss about the delivery being delayed soo close to 05 date..
I think they allocated a reg plate, but to register that plate against a vechile, they need to fill in a v-something form.. and that v-something form aparently comes with the vechile. So I guess until they get the vechile and have sent of the form they can allocate another reg plate... At least thats how I think it works.
Still, I think I will pick it up tomorrow. And try to use the delay and looming 05 date to bargain for some more extras. I just hope they actually have the car ready - with the specs I ordered, since it wouldnt be the first time they used the word 'definately' to mean something else.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts
somehow it kinda made it easier to decide..

Wooohoooo!!!!!
I got it.. I've just taken some pics and will post them up soon.
I even drove it 8 miles home myself.. which probably doesnt sound like a big deal, but it was the first time I've ever been in a car alone.
The only small downer is the car didnt have all the extras I asked for - no leather steering wheel/gator, or color pack!!
But I didnt care - I love the polo!! Got a chance to do 50 on a dual carriageway on the way home, and wow what a difference between 1.4TDi and the corsa 1.2 (what I took my driving lessons in). I was expecting the car to be slow, but with a bit of gas, it pulls away nicely. I love it, love it..
I've taken a look through the instructions and dont think I'll attempt it myself.. the shop will charge 229 to fit it, but I think I'll ask an ex ICE freak friend of a sister to see if I can exchange an install for a few rounds of beer or something.

From car audio security.com on tottenham court road - £1250.. plus 125 for a box they said I needed because the polo might not have a speed pulse thingymajig....SiDaBa wrote:How much are you picking the x1 up for?

Yeah I agree with Aaron, i wouldnt of excepted it. It cant be the car you asked for. Especially if you paid for those extras. I know why you opted for the colour pack cus i did to......best and easiest decision ever.
You really should go back and get them to change it.
Sorry to say that after you've been waiting for so long, I can bet your probably chuffed jsut to finally get your car. But it will be worth fighting for what you want in the end. Give the dealer a real talking to!!!
