Am having quite a difficult time trying to find a set of replacement clocks for my Mk2 Polo Hatch. The 'sticking' on my speedo now seems to be getting worse. Before it only happened when I left the car for a while. Now it sticks if I stop at traffic lights and I'm forever bashing the top of the dashboard to get it to register.
I'll post this on the wanted threads as well but can anyone assist me in locating a set of dials preferably with rev counter? I've been told that a set of VW Polo Mk2 Coupe S clocks are a perfect swap but I've tried numerous places (including the parts gateway) and they seem almost impossible to get hold of.
I've spotted a few sets of Golf Mk2 ones on ebay but am a little concerned that I'll have to do re-wiring and such on those. Any advice very much appreciated?
Ideally you want mk2 coupe s clocks, but mk1 golf gti clocks will also fit (as will the square clocks fitted to early mk2 gti's, but not the round ones unfortunately)
If it helps, I've got a bag of speedo bits upstairs.. just not enough to make a whole set of clocks with a rev counter (or at least, not one that works )
You'd be welcome to a speedo unit or a rev counter unit (or both) if you want.. but I don't have the circuitry to go with them.

I had the same trouble with a V**xhall and I changed the whole cluster to stop it doing it and then thought I'd try and find out why it was doing it......
The background info is on a very thin sheet of vinyl and it had started lifting in a couple of places under the area where the needle was located once out you could see it plain as day
just used a scalpel to trim the bits that had lifted (it was all hidden anyway) put it back together and I was happy a Larry
Key to mine was it always stuck on the same speeds - so I new it had to be somthing to do with the clocks

Can you confirm that ANY set of clocks from a Mk1 Golf GTI will fit or does that mean they have to be square ones as well? Have spotted some on ebay but they are round.
Hi, I've just found this site and i'm soooo happy to have found other people who own mk2 polos and talk about their cars on the net.
I'm looking for a set of clocks as well. I want the ones with the rev counter. I've been quoted £25 by a dismantler but i'd prefer to look for a better deal if i can.
I've read your replies about the suitability of other clocks and i'm confused a bit. You said round ones don't fit, but also the ones with MFA functions will fit. This link : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... Track=true
is of a mk2 golf gti with round clocks but with MFA function as well....
Hi, welcome to the forum Possibilities are limited, yes, but if you check ebay for a couple of weeks you'll almost certainly be able to get a set of mk1 GTi clocks for around £20 inc p&p. An external rev counter shouldn't be too hard to fit, but it will probably be more expensive than a set of standard clocks (if you're buying it new, at least - don't know what second hand ones go for) and it's going to be harder to find something that matches the rest of the interior. I believe it's just a case of cutting a hole in the dash for it and routing about four wires to it. That's the kind of thing where you'll probably find loads of instructions on the internet, I should think sites such as mini owners clubs would be able to help out, or any other popular classic small car that wouldn't have had one as standard.
