Buy some axle stands

Failing that wheel at a time - std issue car jack and make sure you are on the flat and level

dont do what i did- lay under my car, on a slight hill, with just a trolley jack holding it up, trying to kick the wheel off from inside as it had somehow go wedged on inplace. f***** scary!

getting crushed under a car is meant to be one of the most painful, drawn out deaths going. Your best hope is that your head will be smashed into the floor & you'll die fairly quickly, alternatively you could be under there for hours or even days (if for example it's in a garage with the door closed).

Go & spend a tenner on some axle stands!

Yep - can't stress more the value of safety - I throw a tyre under at the road side but on my drive axle stands every time - last count I had 3 sets I don't know how I lose em and then they re-appear but I've ended up with three sets!!!

ok.... ill get some tomoro

this sounds like a stooopid question, but where do i put the axle stand?   where the jack points are? and do i take the jack off when i put axle stands in place?

and is it safe to have 2 axle stands on (so the back of car is in the air, and the front 2 on the ground?)

cheers

Anywhere that can take the weight of the car - jacking points or very very close to them - I'll take some pics it might be too dark but I'll try........ They are likely to be a very funny view as the car is on the deck and I can't be arse to jack it up at this time of the night
carmadaaron wrote:and do i take the jack off when i put axle stands in place?
You can - I don't unless I need the Jack elsewhere like the other side of the car

Yes

if rear of the car is to be lifted - make sure the car is in gear and the front wheels are chocked with nice heavy bricks agains the natural direction of travel (in front of the tyres)

If front of the car is to be lifted make sure the handbrake is fully on and and the rear wheels are chocked with nice heavy bricks against the direction of travel (behind the tyres)

Make sure the car is on the level - gravity is one powerfull force

It's not ideal but you do it at the roadside if you have a puncture - and you aren't working underneath the car are you?
