Directline and Mods

Has anyone on here decleard mods to directline before? What are they likely too say if i phone and say I want to lower my car and how much extra could i have to pay. I got my eibach sportline springs sat at the end of my bed and want too fit them.

I'm with Direct Line, so I'll be interested to hear what they'll say :D

I had my 9n lowered and 16" alloys with direct line.

Didn't cost any extra for alloys but the eibach springs cost around £60 extra I think.

I find direct line relatively easy to deal with, especially as I'm phoning them once a week to add the G to the insurance. Not too god on mods but always come out cheapest on a standard car for me.

I'm with directline and have all my mods declared (suspension, wheels, fogs). All in, I pay about £100 more than I would otherwise do. I also have my grille declared, but they gave me that for free!

One thing, though. Last year, they omitted all the mods off the certificate when I renewed and I had to get it re-issued. They got it right this year, though.

Kool, I'll give them a ring sometime then. At least they don't tell people where too go, if you ask for a mod, like i thought they might

Bad news people! I've just been on the phone to Direct Line, who have told me that until I reach the age of 25 (I'm 24 in May) I can't make any modifications to the bodywork, engine, suspension or wheels, without invalidating my insurance :|

So, for me at least, it looks like I'll be stockpiling parts until September, when my renewal comes around and I can consider swapping insurers... dammit :(

Oh yeah, tints are out of the question too :cry:

On the plus side, I can still get my corroding alloys refurbished, as they will still be the original wheels and the finish will be similar enough to the original finish of the alloy (except non-corrosive and shinier!) to "get away with it", as it were...

...still a bit miffed tho. Buggers...

Thats mean Im only 21 :( Adrian Flux here we come.. in november anyway

I'm sure they'd never find the B&M shortshifter.

Better take out the R32 engine and put the 1.6 back in tho :lol:

See I'm umming and aahing over the B&M. I'm definitely still going to buy one, but it might wait until September to be fitted by JBS. You can argue that as its an "unseen" modification, only discovered if you actually drive the car, you could get away with it - but I'm not willing to invalidate my insurance and possibly lose my NCB. Looks like I'll be stockpiling car parts under the bed for a few months!

Exactly, so when September rolls around they'll have an ultimatum - let me have my mods or watch me swap insurers. Of course they can't bend the rules for one individual, so it looks like a new insurance company later this year :)

Just got my renewel notice from Direct Line today.

£518 for my 1.4FSi Polo Sport (5-door) with 2 years no-claims, and 3 years clean license.

Not bad I guess, but then I noticed that although it's my car (correct reg, engine size and trim), it's not the correct model -- it appears that it's for the 3-door 1.4 100bhp Polo Sport!

I've double checked it on their website, and it does indeed automatically choose the 3-door 100bhp model when I input my registration. I thought maybe my car was mis-registered, but the V5 shows the correct details, so where they got the idea that it was that model I don't know, since I only input my registration then too -- guess I should have checked it better!

Now I'm unsure as to whether to bring this to their attention or not -- I may well be moving to Privilege instead since they quoted slightly cheaper (strange since it's underwritten by the same company), but I'm thinking that I've technically been overcharged -- could I get a refund, or might it have the opposite affect, and cause them to invalidate my insurance due to it being quoted for the wrong model?

Hmmm...
