1.3........... right? long downhill stretch?
that sounds painful dan! only ever got to about 6000, maybe 6100 before (might have done 6250 before i had the tacho) and that was a sort of razors edge, should i ease off, should i hold on and pray for the hill to end, or just take this as far as it goes? situation.
(in the end some dick in a rover seemingly without functional mirrors solved that one - and people say VW brakes are poor..)

considering the 1272 CL engine is rated as gaining maximum power at 5000rpm... (i know this isnt top speed related)... but in effect it is.
if the cars powerplant starts to run out of steam @ 5000rpm... attempting to push it harder is kind of useless would you think?
Anyways, i digress... i have 2 1.3CL's... and maximium i got from one of them was around 95-100mph (without rev counter i might add).
You see... the thing with the 1272cc CL engine is, its a low compression engine (relatively speaking)... so its much nippier around town through the gears, but once you are on the open road, its a slug:-(
Just my opinion anyways (so dont all shoot me at once:-P)

The spi engines are not designed for top end power and the torque peaks low. You will struggle to get the high speed like you can achieve in a GT or G40 as they don't breathe well at high revs.
I imagine the NZ is quite capeable as it's injection system is fairly good so with the right box and a cam it would keep on pulling.

Yeah it's really not that bad, quite a lot of torque (as Tim/Overmind will agree) compared to the SPI. Just can't wait to get the GT 'box in and see the benefits.hardhitter wrote: I imagine the NZ is quite capeable as it's injection system is fairly good so with the right box and a cam it would keep on pulling.
Though I really need it rolling roaded in the summer, and see what's up. I thnk there's problems with fueling at the moment, it seems to be back firing a little.
...Steve?
