Speaker/Amp problems

I have a 10" sub in my boot and vibe 6x9's running off 2 amps and the 6x9s when engine is running have a very bad squeeling/humming noise through them is this electrical interference?

yes, sounds like you have a bad earth for your system - move it to a better place, or sandpaper your current earthing point for a better contact

The reason you hear this interference in the 6x9's is because the sub has no capacity to play high frequencies. Most likely the interference is going through the sub too but you can't really hear it.

As David states, get a better earthing point or a thicker wire as your earth. Remember that your earth wire needs to be at least as thick as your power cable. The more amps going through the amp, the thicker the cable you need.

try running your power cable down one side of the car and the remote wire on the other.

the whine you hear could be the altinator noise running down the power cable. so if you keep your remote away from it, it stops interferance.

this may not be the case, but you wont know unless you try!

i thought the remote doesn't matter? you're supposed to run the signal wires down one side and power on the other..... I wouldn't have thought you'd get noise from a remote cable as all it does is send 12v to the amp.

maybe I'm wrong?

In most cases the remote is near the low level lines (i.e. chinch). I agree that you need to take the + away from the signal cables though, but the remote is so low on current I doubt that's the problem. Good point on the + though; is that by itself on one side of the car?

I have been told that mybe i need a supressor this will get rid of the noise where can i purchase one?

someone has a similar problem on a local car site.

a car auido specialist wrote....

"NEVER use an in line filter! What they do is cut out high end freq. that are amplifying the interference. ie cutting out approx 4Khz. Which is the last thing u want to do - You ideal is to amplify 20Hz-20Khz with no cuts or distortion.

Advice is to take it to a specialist and ask them to sort it."

he's basicaly sayin take it him and he will sort it, but he wont tell you over the net cos its probly simple and he just wants ur money!!!

so im sure you'l find out what it is soon enough. also have you done a new earth point? your earth can be the cause of alot of problems?

sounds about right to me, thats what i did with my install and its perfect.

It may also be that your RCA wires are shot, if you are using them.This happened to me, when the shielding on my RCA's parted company, allowing huge amounts of alternator whine into the system.
