mk4/5 estate

Post by Tahrey1043 »

anyone had one of these, i came across my first real-life one in tescos car park today and its got about the perfect proportions... looks small and lightweight, and not too long, but still with good carrying capacity. And a unique look to it.

think that might be my next thing i look for after the vaux, if the enignes/performance/handling/economy are any good

Gareth_GT_Hatch (or whatever he's called on here) had one briefly and seems to swear by them.

I'll let him explain why tho

Im sure I told you to get one mr tahrey, theyre really nice cars. Make sure you get a mk5 though as the interior is much nicer. (blue and red dials etc etc.

The engines are similar to those in the mk4 golf where theres a 1.4 16V small block petrol with 75bhp, a 1.6 8v tall block petrol with 100bhp and 3 1.9 diesels; SDI 68bhp, TDI 90bhp and TDI 110bhp. best of the lot is the 110 TDI as its got the most power, torque and is the most economical: 55mpg combined. Whereas the 90bhp manages 54mpg, although the 90bhp one I had was never this good, only got around 45 out of that but I dont think it was running right. Fuel economy from the petrol models is pretty average, 40ish from the 1.4 and 36ish from the 1.6.

I agree about the proportions - they look spot on! :D And I would own another, the reasons for selling mine were mainly financial. You can pick up a good 1.6 petrol or 1.9 diesel in "S" trim for around £4K but the really high spec "SE" ones can still fetch around £6-7K depending on how high spec it is, leather interior was an option on the SE :D

Above is a review by parkers. Its good reading. says it has better handling than the mk5 hatch. It should as well as the cordoba (which has the same chassis) used to be a rally car! :D Its also got performance figures, power torque, 0-60 times etc etc.

never saw one before though, thought it'd be hugenormous!

anyway same defence as before ..... this one just popped up and i jumped for it as it seemed to be quite the deal

now if only i can get it to stop spreading sauce on the oil cap and get more than 37mpg sometime before it's moved on :)

As some of the regulars know, I absolutely *love* them. I still want one, badly. Not that it's in the stars anytime soon, but they're wonderful little boxes. Bit like an ugly duckling really. Would look amazing slammed on 15" TH-lines.

Its the same size (EXACTLY) as as mk4 golf hatchback. It just looks big because of its shape. Its quite a narrow car as well (which makes it easy to park) :D

I was talking to my mate about them last night. Looks like its not just me who likes em then. :D Theres no new(ish) dub I like the look of more ( :o ) I was saying 15s and slammed as well but my main reason for 15s is because Im a cheapskate, 195/50/15 tyres cost next to nothing. He wanted me to get at least 16s. :P
