If you have that option on your Polo, should the output be displayed in the combi instrument panel ?.
I get the display within the rev counter but on the VW website they have a pic showing the display within the combi panel.
I have looked at the manual and it seems to refer to optional kit.
Is correct, any help would be appreciated.

Oh dear another thing to and to my list of stuff I'd like to do, shame the instructions are in german, google and altavista translations are ok for gettin the drift of whats happening but not enough to risk doing the job.
Unfortunately I love my gadgets so this is at the top of my list now above the 9n2 indicatored mirrors. Biggest problem would be persuadin the garage to do the dashboard stuff, what do they mean by de-enenergising the tacho?

They mean that you have to go to your dealer and pair the new dash board with your engine's imobilizer code. I have come in contct with the cuy who did this modification and he answered me in english. Here is his mail:
I made a guide at polo9n.info:
http://polo9n.info/page.php?p=anleitung ... Polo&pn=MF
A%20/%20FIS%20nachr%FCsten
Have you seen this guide ? Or is it not enough ?
Back to the other questions: yes, i made the installation by myself and i
did not have a FIS or MFA before. 3/4 of the installation is not that heavy,
but the last step is not possible to do by yourself. I try to explain it a
little bit better:
At first you have to remove the airbag, the steering wheel, the complete
speed indicator, the drop-arm switch. Then you have to buy a new drop-arm
switch with the switches for the MFA/FIS (i posted a picture in the guide).
It costs ca. 50 €. You need 3 cables (buy them at VW, because they have
special connectors, part number: 000 979 003 A). They cost ca. 10 €. And you
have to buy, thats the most important part, a new speed indicator. You have
to change your old indicator for an new from VW and that will cost nearly
400 € !!! I bought mine at ebay (62 €))))!), but there are no more there
at ebay. Your new indicator must have the FIS OR the MFA.
Then you have to connect the three cables from the drop-arm switch to the
new indicator.
Thats all you can do, because then VW must help you. They must tell the new
indicator, that the car is now the new owner. The car won't start before,
because the anti-theft device / immobiliser is activated. After that they
have to tell the new indicator the dates of your car and then they have to
enter the kilometer-data from your old indicator.
I had very much luck, because it was not expensive. I bought the indicator
at ebay (62 €) and the drop arm switch and the cables at VW (60 €), i made a
good price with VW for entering the new data (50 €) and i let enter the old
kilometer-data from another person (because the ebay indicator was over 100
km) (40 €) !!! Thats really cheap.
Okay, i think, that this mail is a little bit confused, but i can make a
better mail at the end of february. I'm a student and i'm having some
examinations in the next weeks. After that i can help you as much as i can.
So, if you can wait a little bit and if you still want to do that mod, even
of the high price of the new indicator, than please answer me and i will do
my very best at the end of february.
Puh... hope you understand everything i'm trying to explain.
