Post by GTi---Dave »

Im going to buy a Polo Gti, what do i need to look for any problems, ive read about the pedal box ect. I dout i will be buying it as a aproved VW as they dont seem to have many and the prices seem very high, idealy i want a 3dr with leather, what should i expect to pay.

There was one with leather and sat nav on ebay this week for £6,500, you would pay more at vw dealer or private.

Clutches and cam belt tensioners seem to go at fairly low miles. BBS wheels have problems with corrosion and are fairly expensive to refurb, which might be a good haggling point

You're right mate there aren't many about on the vw website, last time i was on there were 2. That's compared to the high 40-odd that were on it when i bought mine last August.

Be patient though, it took me 3 months to find the one i wanted, but thats cos i wanted to go Approved.

If i was you i'd hold off and spend the little extra to get one from an approved dealer, that 1yr warranty and breakdown cover is worth it for peace of mind alone.

the one ive looked at is from an audi vw specialist, its a Y with 34k on the clock. i think i might have problems insuring it so im going to find out before i buy one.

do you think been as there is 34k on the clock there might be a chance of beating them down about the cambelt change? because this is done at 40k right?
