Servicing your GTi

Post by andyg »

Couple of quick questions guys.

1.) Do you service your GTi?

2.) If not where do you get it done?

3.) If so what make and grade of oil do you use, and what would you reccomend.

I do mainly motorway miles and my first service was at VW, but having done servicing on my previous motors myself for a fraction of the cost (about £40 - 60) I always feel robbed when signing away £150+ for an oil and filter change.

I was thinking of either servicing the Gti myself (can't be much diff from the 6n2 1.4 16v, or taking it to JBS (the guys on the banner on the top of the site) If I took it to JBS would I still keep my vw used warrenty?

I was thinking of changing the oil anyways in between servicing, so that the oil is replaced every 5000 miles, so im mostly interested in which make of oil to buy (I usually put in 15-40 semi synth on my other motors).

thanks[/b][/list]

Hi Andy, in answer to your questions:

1.) Do you service your GTi?
Nope!

2.) If not where do you get it done?
I take it to my local VW dealership every 12 months and have the work done there

3.) If so what make and grade of oil do you use, and what would you recommend.
Last time I had a service done by VW they filled the car with Castrol GTX Magnatec - I've no experience of any other makes

I take my Polo to the dealer for servicing every 12 months to continue my full VW service history, and because they know what they're doing, whereas I haven't the time or the knowledge, or the space on the driveway, to do it myself!

I'm happy to have them take care of it, hand over my hard-earned, and get the dealer stamp in the handbook :)

Cheers

Hi

You can take your car to any garage to have it serviced and keep up with the warranty.

With the introduction of Block Excemption any garage can service your car.

As long as:-

1) They are VAT registered

2) They use genuine parts

3) They stick to the service schedual as set by the manufacturer.

Our labour rate is £35.00 + VAT

If you go to a dealer you could be looking at about £60.00 + VAT

That is usually where the price differs.
