Worn steering column?

Post by metz »

Hi guys / girls...Has anyone had any experience of a worn steering column on a mk3 polo?

The clamp at the bottom of my steering column (near the pedals) needed tightening again today, it wasn't really loose but the steering wheel was clunking a little and i could move it about 1/2 inch either way without the rack moving. I tightened it as much as i could with some spanners and it feels better now but the clamp is just about as tight as it will go (edges almost touching) And i'm worried something isn't quite right.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds more like the play in the rack needs adjusting out than a worn steering column... :?

Uncle Steve - Yoof's GT is suffering the same prob. And methinks the rack is proper fooked, as the adjuster can't be moved. How much for one of your racks from your parts emporium?
