low down Accelerator pedal , is this normal?

Hi Guys,

I just test drove a GTI , I loved it but noticed one thing and am not sure if itâ€™s an issue.

The clutch and brake pedal are much higher up than the accelerator.
Compared to my mk3 polo this means it takes an extra second to lift my right foot up and over left to the brake. Sure I can left foot brake , but not when changing gear!.

Is it standard for the accelerator to be that much lower? , I guess as the brakes are so much sharper you donâ€™t need instant access.

I've noticed the lower position of the accelerator, but to be honest I didn't notice until a few weeks ago when it was pointed out by a mate. It hasn't affected my driving and it isn't uncomfortable in any way either, so... meh.

Anyways, yes I believe it is normal on the Polo GTi

Just to back Si up yep that is normal, but I don't find left foot braking easy though !

It is normal.

You can't do heel & toe in the Polo GTi anyway, due to the way drive by wire works.

As a "Safety Feature" the VAG group of companies decided that if the accelerator and brake were pressed at the same time, the "user's" foot had obviously slipped when braking, so to help the poor "user" out, they thought it'd be a good idea for the ECU to cut the throttle when this happens!

Gotta love that DBW.

Comes natural for me, being left handed, my left leg is much stronger and perfect for changing gear and breaking

edit: oops ignore what i put, i do break and accel. with my right leg

Thanks for the feedback, glad to know its standard.

Seemed a dumb question , but last time I drove a new car it was in the USA and an automatic , hence with no clutch it was easy to left foot break!

The only other thing I noticed is that the tires seemed to be really low profile - I take it this also standard spec. Looks like it could be costly to replace a set , still worth it as they look stunning!

Here is somthing thats wierd (at least on my motor)

Put your foot under your accelerator pedal and lift it (not while driving), mine has about 2-3 inches of movement upwards (not from a depressed position) Wonder why that is?

Yep, the accelerator pedal has got quite a range of movement! No idea why it lifts mind you

I *think* the accellerator pedal can lift back because its a drive by wire accellerator, as oposed to having a cable.
