Squealing Suspension

Post by Jedi »

Anyone else had a problem with their 9n making a high pitch squeal as you turn or accelerate. Been to my local stealer several times now and keep getting fobbed off, apparently the most likely explanation is that pads are caressing the discs which i think is a total load of crap. Along with this i've been told that due to customers complaints of dirty wheels VW have started using a harder compound brake pad because the amount of brake dust produced, although i really can't think how that can relate to the above explanation. The pads shouldn't even touch the discs unless braking, but according to them i'm wrong. Just starting to get really annoyed with the whole situation! Any help appreciated guys, cheers

Nope, my 1.2 12v does not squeel under acceleration or cornering, It is really out of order the way some dealers treat customers.

Ive had no problems either, stealers are useless. Ive been told to wait two weeks to find out what damage ive done to my car after hitting a rock, and have advised me not to drive the car....helpful!

squeling suspension

Post by dave-h »

I have never heard of squeling suspension.Did a Technician bother to
take the car out and test it? I have heard of squeling brakes, but only when you press the pedal to slow the car down. This was caused by dust
getting behind the front disc and in front of the caliper if you get my drift.
A thin slither of grease was smeared on the metel part of the disk pads this supposedly stopped the friction and hey presto the squel dissipeared.
But yes i do agree with you Stealers are a con. They told me it was normal for my wifes 6 month old Golf to burn 2 litres of oil.The car had done 2000 miles. He didnt tell me that when my wife was purchasing the car.Hope you get sorted

I took a technician out twice now and sod's law it didn't squeal once apart from one turn, he then gave me the explanation about the discs and pads. Defiantly not the brakes as it happens when i'm not braking. Apparently another reason is the mountings that suspend the exhaust can sometimes squeal when you take corners!!!!

Really starting to lose faith in VW, going to see the service manager tomorrow who i haven't seen before so hopefully i will get the situation resolved, already been told by VW customer services that there is definatly a problem with the car, so i'd like to see how they wiggle out of this one.

Bloody hell! 2 litres in 2000 miles i know new engines can drink a bit of oil but thats a lot. I've also got a Golf 1.8T but that hardly drinks any oil, haven't had to top it up once. What engine has she got in hers? I know the 2.0 and the TDI's are known to be a bit thirsty on oil.

I know a litre costs £7 so what's the other £5.50 for? Labour? Probably wouldn't have give you the rest of the bottle either. Glad to hear it's running ok now. Car is sorted now mate, turned out the rear discs were scored even though the pads were only 80% worn. The technician told me the most likely explanation is the previous owner scored them and just changed the pads as i couldn't have scored them with amount of meat on the pads. Actually remember the rear discs still had a light coating of rust on parts of the discs after i took it out for a test drive which showed the surface area wasn't uniform just didn't think anything of it at the time. Result new pads and discs fitted and no more squealing. Thanks for all the replies, Jedi.
