What Mods have you done to your GT ?
Just thought I would start the ball rolling to see what engine mods you have done to your GT's ?
I have a pipercross vector induction kit, de-cat downpipe and custom stainless exhaust system.
Does anyone have a cam or chip on theirs ? if so what sort of gains did you get ?

Perhaps the only regular user Dan, but I'm here too.
I've got a Mk2 Golf airflow meter and K&N (which made a big difference, pulls harder) plus a stainless steel exhaust withd decat pipe.
And more to come soon... I've got plans going through my head at the moment and I'm thinking of using my savings/student loan/overdraft to help me out.

Basically all my mods have been free, or very, very cheap so far... The idea behind my modding is to end up with a car that looks different from the norm but still looking like a volkswagen...
mods done:
-removed the red bumper stripe/catalyst badge/black vinyl around the rear number plate.
-GB number plates
-rubbed the silver off the rear badges so thay are now all black.
-removed hubcaps
-mk4 GT badge on dashboard (stolen off my Golf GTI)
-Split 50/50 rear bench (stumbled across a GT with the same trim as mine at the breakers!)
-wolfsburg edition window winders, ally door pins and vwm/sport gearknob
-modded 205 1.6 GTi JR cone filter
-alpine cd headunit/front mids and rockford 6x9's
Mods done but waiting to be fitted:
-painted heater surround/cigarette lighter holder/ashtray/doorhandle inserts silver
-ally mirror adjusters
-snap off/raid steering wheel
-rockford 12in sub
-clear front and side repeaters
-mk2 golf p-slot alloys
mods in progress:
-delocked/colour coded boot handle
planned mods:
-tyres for p-slots
-stainless de-cat exhaust/ 4-2-1 manifold
-amp for rocky sub
-boot solenoid for delocked handle
-home made debadged grill
-lowering springs
-colour coded bumpers with Mk3 Golf VR6 chin spoiler
-tinted rear lamps
-and i need to go out and steal me some front fogs lamps (joke!) ..gonna search the breakers yards til I find me a pair!! (Might have to wait a while though!!)
For now that's all I can think of! Prolly bored the arse off you all with my 'budget mods'!! (If you can call rubbing paint off badges a mod!!! hehehe)

edit:........ ok.. so I re-read the first post and noticed the little word 'engine' mods... doh.
That cuts my list down to just the cone airfilter!
sorry.

It depneds on how far you want to go really. Obviously the G40 has more power and you can do lots to gain more power from it, but the GT has lots of potential too.dub envy wrote:so what sort of power is it possible to get ut of the little 1.3??
On the GT a cam, induction kit, 4 branch manifold and exhaust will give around 90 bhp.
What are you looking to get out of yours ?

believe it or not but once fully tuned to the limit you can get upto around 140-150bhp out of a gt engine.
but that includes.
chip
filter
full system inc manifold and de cat
g60 injectors
stage 3 port and polish
cam
uprated pistons
port and polished thottle body
lighter fly wheel (which won't do much but you can alter the timing for pick up).
8v golf mk2 gti valves
or you can throttle body them
or you can put a 1.6 bottom end on it. as i have been told the mk4 polo 1.6 bottom end should fit the gt head.
or you can bore them out and uprate the pistons that way
i think thats all i know of at the moment lol
