My brother has a K&N panel filter, he also smothed out the inside of the air box and fitted a big cold air feed from the wing. It sounds really throaty but best of all the car pulls a lot harder and feels really responsive.

Same principle as the BMC at 1/4 of the cost!

The air box never feels warm too touch even when it's sitting in traffic or been given a good run.

Panel Filter

Post by morrismen »

Being rather sort of spondoonies at present and knowing my GTi air filter was stuffed (still original from 2000!), then I reviewed others... K&N was £32.99 (ouch), so went to Halfrauds and asked there. They said Champion do not make Polo 1.6 GTi or 16V air filters, but they had a HAL382 which was the one for my GTi - it was £9.99! Bargain!!! :D

Is that just a paper one or a K&N type Foam/Gauze one?

Oh, it's a paper rubber moulded one. Cheap, but that's all I can afford this month

Fitted

Post by morrismen »

I fitted the Halfrauds paper/rubber air filter on Sunday morning, and driving to work today, there is a definite improvement in the response from the engine - there is now no lag when I floor it :D

K&N panel

Post by vinau_uk »

I have fitted a K&N panel on my little GTI, I notice little more noise, better pickup, but not sure about topend rev power. seems to gone flat after 5k rpm. I am thinking about a BMC CDA in future months, but was worrying that it might not past the MOT. Do you guys know about this? because online at the BMC page, it got some small writing saying is not road legal. I think is that fact that it doesnt' use the return oil pipe.. u know the one that connect back to the airbox if oil pressure are high. Anyone got any ideas if this is the case?

BMC filter

Post by vinau_uk »

Finally I got part of the BMC kit but they have missed out the 90' bend. Now i have to wait till Monday before I can fit them in. Have anyone here got some photos of their kit fitted on? The kit didnt' seems to come with a filter for the breather pipe. Is that the case? and if so, what is the solution for that? I can't wait to fit them in. Been waiting too long for this!!!
