first service north east

Post by dave-h »

Hi
My vw is due for its first sevice.I bought it from lookers VW norh east
Any way as we all know main stealers are a bit of a rip off. It will cost £230 basicly for what is an oil change and inspection. There is a company in Middlesbrough called Volkswerk who only service Volkswagens at half the price. They have a web site are a member of Garage associations, etc.
Question is has anybody had their car serviced there? What were they
like?Please let me know.
cheers

No idea what they are like, I take it you are familer with the block exeption changes which mean as long as a garage is vat registered and uses approved parts the warrantee is intact, good show. I also bought from lookers, they will not be servicing mine either. £230 to change the oil and lube the locks, then ring me to say the dics are corroded you'll need new ones. ask to stay whilst they service it if you are concerned.

i had a conflab with my mates and the only thing we could come up with
is that the sevice history would not be from the main dealer Is this worth anything? Or as long as the car has got a full service history but not from the dealer is it worth anthing less? At volkswerk i could get the Vdub serviced twice a year and still be in pocket. As i said i have been on there Web site and everything looks fine. Need to find out more before i commit myself
I can well believe what you say about lookers. That is why we are so reluctant to take the car there.
Still looking for more replies
cheers

that is the argument the VW stealers will use. Maybe an illinformed punter will believe that, although I find it hysterical to think that main stealers have some special 'gift' that other mechanics don't have. A car is a car, change the oil, lube the moving parts when needed, clean the disc's ect and it'll run fine. A service stamp is a service stamp it says the work that the manufacturer requires has been done. In fact I would venture that a small garage with the right gear will do a better job than the main stealer, as all the stealer is interested in is how much they can fleece you for. Wheras a small garge relies on repeat business, word of mouth to keep the business ticking over, if they charge too much or charge for work not needed they will soon lose customers. Whereas the stealers rely on people not knowing anything about their cars and the block excemption rules to take their eyes out everytime they visit the stealer.
