The UK price + VAT is Â£47.23 I think. I imagine the price quoted on polo9n.com was + any German taxes, so its probably only Â£7 more.

The German price is 51,60 Euro without VAT and (officially) 59,86 Euro incl. VAT..

I'll go to Germany in three or four weeks anyway so I would save the p&p if I don't order it but buy it there, but thanks for the offer..

My chrome grille finally came off b/o this morning and I fitted it at lunchtime. Car really does look like a mini W8 Passat at the front now

I love it!! Shame the car now sounds like a MK3 Escort thanks to throttle ecu and exhaust that it falling to bits

Which end of the exhaust is it? If it's in the region of the back box you could put your plan of couple of months ago

into action, and get the labour costs covered under warranty, if you speak nicely with your dealer.

How easy was the grill to fit? What size torx(?) bit do you need?
Mine hasn't turned up yet. I ordered it and a cubby box at the same time, and one of them's on back-order. Could there have been a sudden rush

This weekend I will be mostly fitting....

At first I wasn't sure about it, but it's growing on me. I just don't have the torx thingie to get the old grille off, nor do I know what size to buy - anyone??

Interestingly, I noticed this:

Basically, all the chrome bits are just held on with clips. It would be pretty straight-forward (just fiddly) to get them off if you wanted to paint the black plastic grill parts. I think the chromed bits are just plastic, though

You can't really see it from the pictures above, but the actual VW logo is very easily taken out the frame - you just have to bend a couple of clips and rotate it about 15 degrees. The whole thing just rotates and snaps back into place. You would still have to take the grille off to get the badge out of it (no more beastie-ing anyway!), but, again it would be pretty straight forward to separate the chrome of the vw badge from the lighter gray plastic that goes back for about an inch -- this plastic would be another candidate for painting - red would give a good effect, as you'd only really notice it if you were looking.

I wouldn't bother getting a proper star bit for this, I've got them but I think I just used a flat bladed driver that "sort of" fitted. They aren't done up tight. Up to you though

somebody i know did this with his Punto, he just gave a company his standard parts and they chromed them for him.

I've been trying to find somewhere that can "chrome" plastic for ages -- if anyone knows if/where this can be done I'd be very interested...

@DXG - could you cut and paste your post into the DIY section for future use?

I'll see about doing something with the full procedure for getting the grill off - provide I can work out what it is!!

I was kind of hoping Nelson would be around to offer advice (nudge, nudge!)

Yeah - there are a few places in the midlands that can chrome metal parts fine - it's just plastic - i don't understand how the process would work and the fact that i haven't found anywhere that advertises an ability to "chrome" plastic suggests it's not straightforward.

btw - i should point out that this was a couple of months ago - there was that mk1 polo with 24k on it for sale, and i had a notion to go for the "chromed" style. never followed it through though

I seem to remember Daz or one of his mates having some plastic chromed a few years ago.... Maybe they'd know... Maybe Nyk would know?
