Aero Wiper Guide?

Hi all,

Could have sworn there was a guide on here somewhere for fitting aero wipers to the 6n2 but i can't seem to find owt..... I'm wanting to fit all three wipers and just wanted to have a look at a guide especially with the rear wiper having to be altered i believe before fitting.

The only things i have found are for removal of the 6ns rear wiper and for replacing the rear wiper of a 9n with an aero wiper.

Anybody know if there is a guide anywhere?

Haven't seen one chap but would be mighty interested in any advice on fitting as I have my front and rear aeros to fit next weekend

Heres my Guide.

1. Get socket set (cant remember if it 8 10 or 12 or 13mm u need) so get a whole set
2. Unbolt old wipers
3. bolt on new wipers

You have to cut afew inches off the blade on the back one.

Neil,

I fitted the wipers earlier but the drivers side one either tapped the drivers door or went up on the plastic trim at the bottom of the windscreen...... is it a case of having to settle with it catching the plastic trim, (i don't want it hitting the door and possibly marking the paintwork), or is there something i need to do????

I've taken them back off again as a temp measure.

Also how the heck do you get the plastic end off the rear wiper, the one that holds the blade in situ, so as to re-fit it back onto the cut-down wiper???

I've not had much fun with these front aero wipers. The driver's side one has to be filed down so it didn't catch on the rubber strip along the bottom of the windscreen. Also, you might want to check that when the wiper is at full travel that it doesn't foul on the underside of the bonnet!

But the annoying thing is that they judder a lot, I think they might be lifting off the screen a bit when its windy or driving at speed.

As for the plastic cap on the rear wiper, it has two lugs that locate in notches cut into the side of the metal. Just prise it apart carefully, it should come off. Then to fit it the cap back on you'll need to make two new notches on the now shorter blade.

Put it in some boiling water to losen the glue then just pull.

Mine touched the top of the drivers door too, I took them off again and fitted them as low down as i could. Hope that makes sence.

I think i know what you mean Neil.

I figured if you didn't want the wiper touching the door (albeit only on fastest wipe) that you would have to have the wiper rubber just hitting the plastic trim at the bottom. I'll give them another go tomorrow when i'm off work...............

Mike, I don't seem to have the same problem as yourself with the arm catching the plastic trim at the bottom of the windscreen. Just the wiper rubber rising up onto the plastic trim which i think i can live with....... I don't know why this would be..... The only thing i can think is that the plastic section across the bottom of the windscreen (actually in two sections) was all replaced last year when it was found a had a water leek in that part of the car which resulted in me having a flooded passenger footwell.....It may be that the plastic sections on my car have been secured down more than usual when they fitted them???

I've just seen your pics on another thread but i'll check again when i fit them back on tomorrow but i'm pretty sure the arms weren't catching anywhere.

Just before i took them back off i did notice one of them started juddering slightly when they were in use..... I'm not sure ifthis was due to them not being properly tightened though.

The things we do to make our cars look a little differant eh.....

Took mine off again because they were noisy and annoyed the wife! Mine also went off the screen and caught on the plastic at the bottom.

I could have lived with it for the looks but the missus is harder to please

Has any one else noticed that the springs seem a lot stronger on the aero arms, maybe this is the cause of the judder!

Am currently looking into somehow fixing the aero blades to the standard arms, which are quite different to the Lupo ones, but at the moment it looks like the Aeros will be 'summer' wipers.

I think JWC made up some adaptors to fit his aero blades to the standard arms, maybe we could ask him to make some more and sell them to us all

I PM'd JWC last week asking him about the adapters he made and whether he got any further with making a small batch of them but not heard anything back as yet.

Just thought i'd say i've fitted the wipers back on again and all seems fine at the moment..... Not had a chance to go for a drive with them on yet but i'm pretty happy with the look of them. I'll get out in the car either later this evening or tomorrow sometime.

I must admit the big thing was whether i liked the look of them on the car 'in the flesh' as some pictures of others i seen on here seemed to look like the wipers were quite high up the windscreen when not in use.

Fitted the rear wiper no probs too just used mi Dad's dremmel to shorten the blade and re-cut the notches for the end cap.

Also for MikeGti..... It doesn't look as though i have the problem you have with the arm catching the plastic trim along the bottom of the windscreen. It comes mighty close but just clears it . One of the pics below shows you what i mean..............................

Got there in the end then. Mine made the noise, but I used some rain x and that seems to of helped it.

When I put mine on it didnt rain for about 2 weeks.

I think i'll take out that plastic trim and make sure theres no dirt or anything underneath it. I probably should have done that first...

I use Rain X myself so maybe thats why they aren't juddering much

The only thing i can think of that is possibly differant between yours and my car is that the plastic sections at the bottom of the windscreen on mine were replaced last year by the dealer because of a water leak.

When i was fitting the wipers earlier today i put a little pressure on the plastic and it did move quite a bit. It may just need checking that nothing is under that particular part as you say or possibly just resecuring.

After looking at the pic again the wiper arm does seem to be closer to the plastic in 'real life' than it does in the piccy but the wiper does just clear the trim.

I also tightened the wipers as much as i could to try and combat the juddering problem.......... then went for a run on the motorway whilst using the screen wash and they didn't seem to judder. Of course time will tell.......
