Post by desgreen »

Hi Guys,

The service light might never turn on, shouldn't you take the car for service?

But i thought it would tell you to go for the service as the car seems fine, in the log book it says it will show up if you need a service..mmmmmmm!!!

It will only come up on the screen to notify you if you have it set to 'longlife service schedule' or whatever its called.

They'll probably have asked you when you ordered/collected if you wanted to go for 'longlife - auto notifies you' or
'normal - where you go in every 10000 or so miles.

I picked mine up new in June '04, and the the lil' computer has started counting down from 1400 miles till first service. Ive done around 15,200 so far i think.

I'm guessing it just doesnt need checking out yet, but if you're concerned, i'd head into your dealer and ask them!

My 1.2 wasn't on long life service and it notified me though, it wouldn't notify me till about 500 miles before my service (maybe more). Having said that my gf's lupo tolder her for her first service but didn't notify at all for 2nd service, just booked it in when it was due. :)

Don't necessarily wait for a notification to pop up though.

The service indication can be set up for any miles you want through OBDII. Don't wait for it to show you when. And there is a way to reset it if it has turned on before it should with a combination of ignition switch and clock's button

Isn't the warrenty invalid if you exceed a year without a service?

It's a service indicator thingy interval or a year - whatever comes first!!!!

If it's on longlife service then it's either when the display tells you or every two years.

Look in your manual to see if your on longlife or fixed.

Not on the 9n if it is set to the longlife regime, It could in theory be serviced every 2 years or 18,000 whichever comes first, plus you do not have to have VW service it now in the UK, any VAT registered garage can do it as long as they use VW approved parts.

Just a tip... make the effort to 'shop around' when it comes to servicing.

The dealership i bought my polo from quoted minimum £229 for basic first service

Other dealership... same company (robinson's), 20 miles from the other branch have quoted £160 min - £200 max. Oh, and not forgetting the '54 1.6 golf se i get for the whole day :D
