looks good but their maths is a bit dodgy - £37 out of £50 is 74%, not 340...

Tahrey, by my calculations neither of you are right.. What they're saying is for every £13 you spend on fuel, you spend £37 on tax, which is why it's a pretty high percentage they've come up with... but (37/13) x 100 = 284.6%, not 340%. Pretty high either way..

Edit:

(50/13) x 100 = 384.6%
That's how they did it.. which makes more sense than how I did it. So I don't think they're wrong at all...

that's the equation for...... um...... ha, it's fading already. post examnesia. something to do with shielding and attenuation.

sorry i was just trying to say in a rather idiot manner that i cant figure out any maths at the moment as my usually overly-competent sums ganglion is all frazzled up. so whatever you've written, "that's right" :D

Does it really matter anyway as (imo) fuel prices are a joke!

true

seems to be a sort of general "stop taking the p*ss out of motorists" petition as well - less nonsense speed limits, and the like.
(see that news story where the AA are petitioning for variable speed limit signs allowing up to 80mph on m'ways? .... again...)

same old fight thats been fought since the 1850s really, when the first "red flag" laws were established (not repealed outright until... 1910 was it??) and effectively killed off our pioneer steam coach industry... history could have been very different, and it set a precedent of HM govt being downright nasty at times in that department.
