SERVICE WARNING ON DASHBOARD

Today on the milecounter stars to apear insted of the counter teh word
"OIL" blincking.

After a couple of minutes it wents of ant the counter appear again but at the leftside it apear like drowing of a tool.

Is this the service warnign light?
To resest this anyone can do it or only on Vag???

You have checked the oil level, right?#
The spanner symbol is telling you to get it to a dealer. But I'd check it's not something as simple as needing oil before hand.]

The symbol can be reset without going to the dealer - I think polo2k mentions it in here somewhere... let me look...

the oil is OK

I supposed is the SERVICE WARNING

My next service is at the reach of the 15,000 Kilometers

And last Night I reach them

I was wondering if that was the service check warning cos is the first time it went ON

The service warning starts to chime (when you turn the ignition on) about 300 miles before the next service, so you should have been getting this for a while now...

It doesnt started to chim 300 miles before

I dodnÂ´t know if there is any difference cos my dashbord Computer on board.

On my dashboard doesnÂ´t display on the box at the center but down the RPM gauge on teh clock window, I click and it change de fuel consume, temp etc......

The message you saw is perfectly normal.

Your Polo (which is same as mine) has 15.000km service intervals, but major services are performed only at 30000km intervals.

Your first service at 15000km is an oil change which has to be done in a VW dealer in order to keep your warranty valid.

Hence the word 'OIL' in your LCD.

Your first full service which includes systems checks and part replacements will be at 30.000km. I don't know what will be displayed then (the manual is in my car which is in the garage 11 floors below), but for now take the car to VW's and let them change your engine oil.

I don't know how the law works in your country, but over here if you find they're overcharging for the oil you can bring your own, provided it's the same spec (VW 502.00 or later) and you bring the receipt for it.

I recommend Shell Helix Ultra (5w40, VW502) which is both cheaper and better than the Elaion VWS stuff they'll probably try to push you - at least that's the oil VW sells in Brazil, Argentina, Chile etc.

But on our LCD how do you reset it without going to de VW? Is there any way?

DXG allready have told me a way but it doesntÂ´work on our model

You'll have to change your oil at VW if you want to get rid of the message on the LCD.

Plus if you change the oil somewhere else you'll lose your warranty.

If you find VW's price high buy the oil yourself (to their spec) and have them change it. Labour should be free (it's warranty work after all) and if they're not supplying the oil under warranty they can't force you to buy theirs.

All you'll have to pay for at VW's is an oil filter!

I wish VWUK only charged for the filter!

Over here they hit you for the oil and filter (and probably new rubber seals etc)... This is most definately not classed as warranty work, therefore expect an hours labour (around Â£50 per hour) on top of the oil and filter!

Anyway, over here, if they say you'll lose the warranty for not changing the oil with them, then they've got to change the oil for you under warranty.

Otherwise we could just change the oil somewhere else and present a receipt for the service, and it would have to be validated as warranty work. Changing oil is not something that requires factory trained specialists, not in VW engines anyway.

That's the main reason for the bottle of oil (1L) costing around Â£17 at VW dealers. MOst people simply assume they must use VW oil and pay the price...

Well, the 1L bottle costs Â£17. My 1.6 engine takes 3.5L, so that's 4 x Â£17 = Â£68 for an oil change!

And you can keep half a litre for topping up...
