I used a treatment/coating that came in a dispenser like "shoe polish/paint" - it's used in the trade a lot - I think I still have it somewhere - I'll have a look anyway - take a look in members rides for pictures of my old Coupe S

- see what you think - last picture was after I had applied it
One application and it lasts months and months - didn't wash off or end up on your sponge when you did wash the car either......

(by the way, if any "foreign" visitors to the mk3 forum are confused as to how i got bumper restorer on my windows, i decided to spruce the pla-sticky panels - much bigger on squarebacks than coupes - between the front door and rear window as well as the lower-down trim panels. oh and the bumper-substance mirrors, too
... though they were somehow nearly jet black to begin with)

Easy solution to not getting spray everywhere (if that's what you want to use..) is to stand away from the car and spray the can into a rag, then wipe the rag onto the plastic. Easy peasy.
I've found that the aerosol back to black is s**t. Doesnt make the plastic black, and lasts about 45 minutes.
The back to black in a bottle (the thick gloopy stuff) is horrible. Gets all over your hands and is a bastard to apply evenly.

thats what i eventually settled on, though when the can ran out i didnt bother rushing off to get another.
annoyingly the last thing i did with the dregs of it - squirt some unsteady but intentional stripes on the rear bumper - is still visible some days, usually after rain dries off. so it does have SOME effect..... but its more like Back To Just Noticably Duller Grey.
