im going to trawl some scrapyards for a 1.3 polo , as they dont have a engine size on the boot, is there a easy way to tell the engine size?
i assume its cast onto the block somewhere but theyre usually caked in grease

The manifold is a 4-1 on my ranger. (its 4-2-1 on all mk3s and possibly 2G (late 1300cc) mk2s and the some HB engines (1100 formel E)) Later mk2s and all spi mk3s have the same air filter housing. It depends on the age of the car for these kind of facts though. Ideally the scrapyard will have information on the car, preferably the V5 which will have the engine number on it. Other things mentioned are not as easy to spot since most places I go to, the carb/dizzy is removed and stored elsewhere. There arent many clues to give the game away really! Only thing I can think of that will be pretty obvious is the inlet manifold part number. Should be visible on top of one of the channels: Heres a list of all the ~55bhp 1300cc engines which look more or less identical to one another (I assume thats what youre after?)GroovyCarrot wrote:1.1/1.3 have 4-2-1 manifold/downpipe arrangement, 1.05 has a straight 4-1.
1.3 also has larger air filter housing than 1.05, and if it has a twin venturi carb then it'll be a 1.3.
030 129 711 P 1300cc AAV Mk3 engine
030 129 765 G as above
030 129 711 N = late 1300cc mk2 (MH and 2G engines)
036 129 711 L = intermediate 1300cc mk2 (HK engine)
052 129 712 = early mk2 (and all mk1) 1300cc (HH engine)
Id assume these would be the most common ones (unlikely to find an NZ or GT engine, but then again youll know one of those when you see one.
