Tyre problems

Post by poloboyben »

Just bought some 15' x 8' eurostyle wheels for my polo and having real problems with the tyres. Was reccomended to get a 195/45/15 profile tyre which i did, but now realise they wont fit. Can someone confirm if 205/45/15 will fit cause i dont want continual hassle? cheers

"195/45/15 will go on a 8" wide rim "

According to my local tyre fitter it is dangerous as the tyre wall is stretched.

I own a mk5 polo.

I beleive the whole point in getting that tyre size is so that the side wall is slightly "tighter" then usual not so much stretched, to give it a euro look. LOADS of people do it. Cant say ive heard of many people with damaged tyres because of it. Best bet is to phone somewhere that sells 8 inch wide wheels like awesome gti and ask for there advice, chances are the local place is just being on the safe side to protect themselfs!

My local place said i wouldnt get 16's on my polo and ive got 17 x 7.5 with a 30mm drop. Shows what they know!!

Really!
yeah i got the same about wanting 17's they said 16's were the max, but it also made the car look like a bus, so no scrubbage would ever happen!

as for the tyres 195,45,15's will fit and wont make anything un-safe if they are stretched.

The tyre fitters are probably just covering their own backs in the off chance that they damage a rim trying to stretch a tyre over it. I've seen VWs on tyres stretched even further than you have got in mind, so it can definitely be done. If one place won't do it, ask another!

i opted for 195/45/15's on a 6,5" wheel. i don't care too much for an overly stretched look.
