Yeah, once you've got the ring with the strange hexagon cutout off it's just a case of pulling the innards out, they should come pretty easily..

after a chat on the phone with a m8 who has a G60...

i recon they will be the factory standard oil filled shox. so all i gotta do is drill a hole in the washer looking thing (thats what i wanted to remove, sorry i didnt explain this very well in my first post).

i was juding everything by some g max shox inserts (cartridges) which i removed from some other wheel bearing housing's about an hour before, & they came out the way you guys described (actually they fell out, lol !!)

i was sat thinking... why can't i find this part on the ETKA?!?! LoL (no wonder, it does'nt exisit!)

i even called the local $tealership & asked they guy i know there if the cap/nut that secures the shocker came with this washer looking type item. he said he didnt know, but judging by the fact that for that part alone was around £7 + VAT, he reconed it might do, lol.

a quick call to audi as they had the part, asked their parts guy (who actually had the cap/nut in his hand) said....'no, it doesnt come with aaything else'

Thats not an original wet shock, its an insert. Give it a soak in releasing agent and a few taps will shift it. Failing that, apply some heat to where that thread it and try to work it loose.

i already tried heating it a little, but by fairly substandard means....a little hand held gas torch (all i managed to do was burn away some of the rubber seal, lol)

i'm quite dubious about the idea of drilling into it now incase it is a gas insert

Dan.... yep, it was a monroe insert. It took brute force & ignorance to shift the washer looking item (involved mashing it with a screwdriver / hammer )

All removed now!

While i was there, i decided i wanted to replace all the TCA bushes with a mixture of powerflex for the inners & supaflex for the outters 8)

I planned on using some salvaged parts from Don Polio the 1st (but soon realized what i thought was a spare TCA, was actually bent from the impact Don suffered with the dry stone wall, lol)

So now im sat awaiting a call from a local motor factors with a new TCA (shame it comes supplied with bushes, as i will have to remove these to upgrade them with the powerflex / supaflex items i have)

Also managed to shag one of the trackrod ends by smacking the head with a hammer to release it (it did the job, but.... when i came to put the nut back on, it cross threaded maiinga right mess of it all! HAHA)

Well a fairly simple job will have taken me 3 days to complete at this rate!

just my f00kin' luck.... i managed to snap the top off the other sides old strut (while trying to untighten the nut around it!)

i'm gutted now. all i can think of is two options...

option one... angle grind the lot off since i have a few spares i can use, just need to be very careful of the carbody work surrounding the top mount housing)

option two... take it somewhere & get them to heat it up enough to lossen it right off, then limp home very very slowly

actually... not very good to drive the car right now as the ARB isnt connected. also... i have upgraded the other side of the car with lowering spring, g max shocker & poly bushes aswell. i think the car would be pretty unsafe to drive even a short distance like this. F00K!!!!!!!

option three... cut through the stem of the shocker (in between the spring) with a hacksaw.

what you lot recon??

UPDATE...

Post by pete69zx »

Everything is all finished off & put back together again, YAY! :P

Just one small issue that is bugging me...

Its about the Polo Cup front ARB moutnings...

Is one supposed to sit the other way around compared to the other?

I recall this being a total b***h to try & line the two ARB mounts up last time i had the front end apart :x

This time i settled with one facing the other way in comparison to the other... is this the way, or is this wrong?

Wish i had taken some pix now, to make my ramblings seem a little clearer :?
