i'm back!

Post by minis84 »

Hello everyone!

I know I was pretty quiet last time I was around, with my little 1043 Squareback, but I'm back!!

I couldn't keep away from Polo's, and guess what?! I'm selling my Mini to get one!!!

I've got my eye on a 1991 GT, to use as a practical everyday car, so my recently bought 1991 Cooper is for sale. I was fed up with all the work it needed, the list was endless, and my Polo needed nothing more than new rear brake pipes in 6 months!

So I'm going to be plauging you for advice regarding GT's, MkIII's, and general Polo etiquette!

I'll let you know how it all goes, I'm going to look at the car on saturday. I'm pretty good with all the standard things to look for on a Polo, but is there anything special I should be looking for on a GT as opposed to a CL?

Obviously its MPi, and has a 5 speed box. Is there anything else I should be glaringly aware of when looking around it?

Thanks in advance!!

Good to see you back. Even though Mini's are great fun and have good character, the maintenance and reliability can get a bit much (not wanting to start a discussion on this subject).

Anyway, the GT is a good runabout as many people will also tell you. Good MPG, reliability, performance amongst other things.

Have a read of the Mk 3 buying guide and you won't go far wrong. You seem to know enough not to go wrong.

a Coupe! Am really excited now, went to look at it yesterday, and am picking it up on wednesday night!

I am really interested in the subtle 'euro' styling that is popular on VW's. My Mini has 10" wheels, and it handles really well on those. I understand that euro styling involves fitting small diameter wheels (13"?), that are quite wide (amongst other mods). Does anyone have any pics of cars with these sort of mods, or a link to a site that might have?

Thanks!

Tom
