Exhaust Gas Warning Light

Post by Sadgeek »

Guys,

My wife has had this lamp light up yesterday. I've phoned the dealers and they say bring it in at the end of today and we'll have a quick look, which isn't too bad, but does anyone have any idea what this may be pointing to?

Perhaps a bad cat?

She's done less than 2000 miles in it since March

Thanks

'fraid I can't suggest anything, then. Early 1.4 petrols have a habit of throwing these errors up. The ECU software was re-written (and presumably installed on later cars) to avoid it.

it could be anything to do with the exaust system heres a few possibilitys:
dead o2 sensor or wireing fault
dead cat or possibly both
leak between the cats
bad ecu connection theres loads more but since its under warrenty i shant scare you
oh and its possible that its actually the engines fault too as if its producing more pollution than the carts can keep up with then itll throw a code

Thanks guys, in the end the dealer had a look at at and said it was a wiring fault, but if it re-occurs we should take it straight down to them. This sounds more like a "we don't know what it is so we've re-set the codes and hope it doesn't return".

Maybe I should invest in vag-com, since I have another VW which could benefit too.

Anyway, thanks for your help. Much appreciated
