gt/g40 badges

Post by lord_sharpy »

hi guys, im currently driving round with my car badged as a g40 when its a gt, i bought it like this. ive got a normal grille badge but the rear badge is only 'g40' like it has been cut down, it hides the holes just, and looks quite good. i was jus wondering if anyone is interested in a swap as i really want some gt badges front and rear.
cheers
james

p.s can email photos of my badges if needed.

Doug and Dan maybe?

They have a G40 badged as a GT. Seems a logical swap

did a quick bit of research to find this:
Martyn@VAGparts wrote:its just teh G40 badges that are the problem, all the others seem ok, Polo, Polo GT, Coupe they all seem fine. I'd be surprised if GPC have got the G40, probably an old listing not delered! if they have, then grab it with both hands!!

Yes, you can still get the rear GT badges for definate anyway. 'Cause I renewed all the badges on my tailgate including the 'Polo GT' but excluding the Catalyst obviously

I went to the parts/spray department. Where I am, it's over the road separate and away from Specialist Cars sales centre. I just asked in there at a little booth, he ordered it up and it came within 3 days or so. This was about June/July last year.

If I remember correctly, the 'Polo GT' script badge was about £8 - can't remember exactly. I got the 'Coupe' badge for free though. I went to collect it and guy just gave it to me and I asked how much and he just said "Nah, don't worry about it. I'll sort it out"

That's strange. Maybe in that years time they have become very hard to get a hold of.

But here's the number for VW Aberdeen (ask to speak to the parts department) - 01224 384000

if i remember correctly, there some law about manufacturers legally having to supply spares/parts for cars for a maximum of 10 years after production has ended. as its 2005 now, even the latest mk3's aren't covered by this anymore

VW have on the side of their parts delivery vans something along the lines of:

"we guarantee to be able to get hold of any part for any VW up to 15 years old"

They couldn't get me a front GT badge though, only a G40 one!

Understandable though I guess if they have all been sold, they're not going to risk manufacturing more in a diminishing market.
