Thats great news...one down...only 3499 to go...mine included! They say it should be ready for me on Friday...I hope so, can't wait to get mine back...the Bora is like a boat round corners!
Have you checked everything is working properly?

On the subject of things not working properly...
Firstly, after a couple of weeks of hassle-free post-recall driving I went out at night (don't do much night driving as I'm a lazy sod and its summer so only dark after 9ish I spose...) and have found that the dials for a/c and temp control aren't lighting up with the rest of the dash lights! Definitely something to do with having the dash out as they were fine before. And secondly, when I turn the steering wheel theres a scrraping/rubbing sound like its been tightened up too much and is rubbing against some other plastic part when the wheel turns
So its back off to VW this evening with a ;ist of things that need looking at before my warranty runs out... d'oh

Cheers
Dave.

Hi Guys,
I have only had my GTi just over a week and from reading posts before i picked the car up regarding the pedal box situation, i though i would act on it before it caused me any problems as the car is luckily still under warranty.
Its now going into VW tomorrow and they have seemed helpfull so far and knew all about the recall, they say it will take between 2-3 hours to carry out the neccessary work, as they carry the parts in stock
Also they are going to look at my wheels as there is just a tiny bit of corrosion on 2 of them and ill hopefully get those or maybe all four refurbished under the warranty as well fingers crossed

Yippee! Finally got my car back from the dealers last night, treated it to a nice drive to Meadowhell...I spotted a fellow GTI member (with personal reg SARA?).
Clutch feels awfully heavy but that could be because I've been knocking around in a Bora for over two weeks!
Need to have the tracking, insurance, MOT done now, pants that everything comes at the same time!

Dealers phoned today and said they had done the car today rather than tomorrow and could i pick it up.........Within 5 mins i was in the little lupo heading towards the dealers!!!!!
Picked it up and all seems ok...Blower works perfect on all vents (actually better than what it was so suspect mine was slightly out of allignment anyway and they fixed it!!!), All dash lights seem to work ok and the brake pedal doesn't seem to be sticking.
Did get a card left in the car asking if i was interested in selling it to the dealer!!!! Might call them to ask what they value it at seeing as i got it cheap due to work that needed doing to it and the high mileage.
When i went to pick the car up there was another GTi parked near the doors to the dealer (Gilders Hillsboro)..... A black 5-door...Y10* *** was it anybody's on here and if so did you also have a card left asking about selling the car???
Cheers
Dave.

Had a phone call to say mine is ready, hopefully everything will be working and not done to the usual standard, where you have to go back the next day for everything to be put right.
The dealer Sloans of Edinburgh has a silver W plate (41k miles) for £6995 doesn't have climatronic so very early car (trade in value, according to little black book is £4.5K !!!)Couple of Lupo GTI on forecourt as well.

Just to let you guys know about something else to be careful of when you get your car back after the recall.............................
I was just driving to Barnsley to take the car in to have the wheels re-furbed when just as i was changing gear from 2nd into 3rd there was a clunk and the clutch pedal just went loose. The car stuck in 2nd gear and i had to pull over to the side of the road stall the car then knock the car out of gear. I pushed the clutch pedal with my foot and it was as loose as hell.
Called the RAC out also advising that the car had just come back from a VW re-call only yesterday and that it is 99% something to do with that and told them i would call the dealer and suspected i may need towing into the dealers which the RAC were ok with.
Then spoke to the dealers who seemed very concerned when i told them what had happened and did indeed say to get the RAC to bring the car straight to them so they could check what had happened.
RAC chappy turned up and had a look told him about the re-call and he checked the clutch cable as i also wondered if the clutch cable had snapped. seems the cable hadn't snapped but had slipped big style. he re-adjusted it at the side of the road. Now at this point he said that if it had not just come back from a major re-call he would have sent me on my way but suggested that he followed me to the dealers to get it checked out by them anyway.
Took the car carefully in to the dealers where they checked it and confirmed that it was indeed the clutch cable that had slipped and that everything was ok.
Sooooooooooooooo after all that..... Just be carefull when ya get the car back after the re-call as you too may have this same problem which can put you off a bit especially if you were doing 40 or 50 mph and going from 4th to 5th etc....
Cheers
Dave
p.s.
I still managed to get my car in to the wheel refurb place ...... They have been great and took the car at around 1000 rather than the usual 0730 and have even said they will try and get the job done for this evening but may be tomorrow morning instead...... Which is great seeing as they also said the waiting time for the same day service is around 3 months!!!!!
Cable

If the cable end lug is not locked in, and clipped on the clutch pedal, then it will come off and slip.
Also, ensure you adjust the clutch when you get the car back as the VW Dealers tend to just do up the 2 nuts (10 and 13 mm) a few turns on the engine end of the cable, without adjusting it for optimum pedal return.
I have complained about the adjustment on the clutch cable to VW as the nuts need tightening right in to bring the clutch pedal up. This in turn compresses the clutch spring and thus their is no dampening on this manual GTI clutch (its not hydraulic) - this leads to stretching and weakening of the cable.
Thus, I recommended people get new clutch cables as it makes a huge difference overall to making the clutch comfortable.
