Yes, many bytes change from Bosch 8.2i to Bosch 9.0i, but the bytes for brakes are the same!

As you wrote some posts ago, another big difference between the two ABS unit versions is that Bosch 8.2i supports only up to 288mm front discs coding. Bosch 9.0i, instead, supports up to 312mm front discs coding.

Here on this forum there is a user, firegrafik, who is sort of a master/guru of coding of ABS Bosch 8.2i/9.0i.
He explained me lots of things about ABS coding, but I don't know if I can post them here. Maybe he can do it by himself!

There are two versions of the brakes control units. Bosch 8,2 and Bosch 9,0.
Bosch8,2 came for cars up to 06.2012 year.
Bosch9,0 came for cars since 06.2012 year.

The versions has some differences in socket wiring and codings:
There is possible to retrofit ESP9.0 instead of ESP8.2.
Some guys in Russia retrofit ESP9.0 instead of ABS8.2.
But I am not sure is the 8.2 could be retrofitted instead of 9.0 because of possible incompatibility with wheels sensors.

Here is information which I collected and systematized concerning Polo's ABS with ESP coding calculating. The sourses were Polo hatches an polo sedans in Russia. extra Skoda Fabia
For simple ABS this could be helpful also, but as a rule some bytes in simple ABS have values 00
This coding description is not a final version, If you will find a differences or mistakes please write I will correct it. At least the variants for right-side steering wheel should be added

Thank you so much, firegrafik!
You already explained to me many things on drive2.ru, but with this last post you really made it complete! It really helped me to understand how the ABS Unit coding works.

For the byte 15, on my BlueGT I have 55. CPTA motor with left side stearing wheel.

For the byte 16 I want to deactivate the ESC fully, but originaly I have 09, I think it's because I have HHC, when I put 14 it deactivates the HHC, if I activate it, it becomes 15... I guess it should be fine. :)

In the nearest time i'll add some more info. Now it should be checked some codings with ESC-SPORT mode activation with the ESPoff button

For the ESP, i left it at 15, but I haven't tested it yet, I will try it today and see if it fully deactivated the ESP. :)

And for byte 15, I was just informing you :P

I've just found the brakes coding of the Polo R WRC specific for 310mm front disks and 254mm rear vented disks:
byte 2 --> 78
byte 10--> 1E

iichel, could you try it on your car, please? I'm curious to hear your impressions after the coding change.

I've driving that for a while, doesn't make a big difference to 288/232mm

Does the ABS engages differently?

When I changed from 256/232mm coding to 288/232mm coding I felt a big difference in stopping distances: I felt like the ABS was able to work correctly with my upgraded brakes.

With 310/254mm discs the brake power is higher (mainly because of the major leverage), so I guess the ABS would need the specific coding to be able to engage correctly and to release the calipers to free the wheels. Otherwise it could engage too early and not be able to release correctly the calipers, allowing the wheels to stop, with undesired longer stopping distances.
Am I wrong?

abs as in preventing the wheels from locking up? didn't test that

in theory, I guess you are right, it would affect this a little.
my main reasoning behind changes in ABS coding is, it would distribute brake pressure differently.

Re: Polo 6R ABS CODING

I think the different pressure distribution also affects how the ABS works.

With 256/232mm coding there is more brake pressure sent on the front disks than with 288/232mm coding.
Upgrading from 256mm to 288mm front disks, without changing the ABS coding, allows too much brake pressure to be sent to the front disks. This causes the brakes to lock the wheels too easily and the ABS struggles to release the calipers. All of this can result in longer stopping distances.

Last year I tested the Polo of a friend who changed from rear drums to rear 232mm disks.
I felt an enormous difference when I changed its coding.
Whitout the right coding, the car stayed flat when braking and the brake pressure distribution felt like 50% on the front and 50% on the rear: under heavy braking situations it was almost like using the handbrake.
After changing the coding, the brake pressure distribution felt like 70% on the front disks and 30% on the rear disks: under heavy braking situations the front axle lowered, the ABS kicked-in later and for less time and the car stopped in less space!

I would have never imagined how 2 numbers can affect the efficiency of a brake system. It is really important to put the right coding, not only for braking performance, but also for safety reasons!

Morning lads,

Food for thought here. (i think) :D
First of all, for 8.2, i noticed that these two bits did not add up to my brain, which i could sure be wrong, but

"10 Byte, binary inverted value of the 2 Byte: (24/14/22/12)"

does not add up to

2 Byte, define the brake types:

24 – if the front 256mm disk and rear 200mm drum
28 – if the front 256mm disk and rear 232mm disk
44 – if the front 288mm disk and rear 200mm drum
48 – if the front 288mm disk and rear 232mm disk

correctly.

I could be wrong.

Also this:

40 – BXW/CGGB/CBZB/CGPA/CBZA/CHFA/CFNA left-side steering wheel

I think could be turned to "80" for RHD vehicles.
Right??????

Any input on this would be nice to discuss further.
THESE sort of things just intricate my curiosity.
