hmmmm i reckon its a big waste of time being a named driver on parents insurance, if you cant afford the insurance in the first place then your buying thew wrong car.

The earlier you start off your own NCB the better really, otherwise youll be 19 with no no-claims bonus and get quoted £1900 for a 1.6 !!!!!

thats terrible, i wouldnt pay that for sh1t !

If you cant afford the insurance then you cant afford the car, simple as that.

I remember buying a little golf back when i was 17 !!!! haha LONG time ago, i think i paid £975 TPFT and it was a 1.3ltr !!!!!

I think ive got a pic somewhere haha ! god i look like a boy !!!

Dang, brings back memories !

I disagree there, when I passed I was nearly 18, and on my own I was getting quotes of over a grand, so basically with the money I was on at the time I'd have had no chance of paying it, so being a named driver was my only choice. Now I'm on good money I can afford £160 a month and don't care paying it for such a great car!

"Sh*t wheels belonging to your mum and costing very little in terms of running costs" by far beats "having no wheels at all because you can't afford even 3rd party on a 900cc nova". Come on now. Not all of us can live the dream. I got the polo because i needed a car as well as wanting one, and the choice boiled down to what could be afforded from a strict £1500 budget for car, year's insurance, any initial repairs and first (half) tank of fuel with the remainder.
