I'v bought a blank blade so i am going to get that cut to the shape of the 8v key and coded the same as the GTI key! bloody annoying he never gave me the ignition barrel!! Wouldnt pose a problem! I also have to get the car trailored to VW to get the coding done which is costing me £35 + VAT.
Email the seller and ask why. I got both the key and ignition barrel.. did not have to get VW to touch the car at all.
Dont pay to get it on a trailer, keep the key in and turned so steering doesnt lock and get it towed to the garage.. take your front bumper off so as not to damage the lip and also so you can get to the towing eye thing (whatever its called) easier and then just get a mate to town you with rope. Save you money!
Dee-vub wrote:One more thing......my battery has gone totally flat, any idea why?? I'm going to charge her up over night and then see what happens. I dont think i'd left lights on or anything so doubt its that.
Disconnect your battery, take it to a local garage and get them to test it. Although it may be fully charged you may have a dead cell just like i did. Battery is fuc*ed if it has a dead cell. You dont need a more powerful battery even if you have the new engine and might have subs etc, just buy the same battery. I got mine from a scrappy for £12.50!

Theres a 3 pin thick black insulated wire at the back of the engine under the inlet manifold. The connector hangs near the starter motor...
Does anyone know where it goes??
I have hooked up the starter motor wires, and there are no spare connectors left near that area.
The knock sensor is already hooked up.

also...a two pin connector on a short wire coming from the alternator loom...it hangs near the alternator and the lead is only about 5 inches long...so can't go far.

yeah...i'm stuck on that one too!! lol..its well short isn't it?
I'll get some photos up too later of the ones i need to find out.
For some reason i can't figure out why the hell the radiator fan/thermo switch connectors are so short...they don't reach to the middle of the engine bay in front of the manifold...
Also i figured out what that thick black wire hanging at the back of the inlet manifold was...its some sort of sensor wire for the engine/box...donno exactly yet.
Using a 1.4 SPI mk5 as a guide is bloody hard!!! the gti engine is completely different.
Gets some pics up mate...lets keep this thread going cos i need some help.

ohh yeah...phil can you take pics of where the connectors should go for the lighting...i have no idea what does what, due to the gti having xenons...i donno if they had a few extra connectors.

horn on a normal 6n2 is down the bottom right of the car if your looking at the engine forward towards the windscreen
When you say fogwiring what do you mean? Fogs are just a two wire connector that has a purple face to it

With all the problems your having no wonder it took the guy 4-5 weeks doing mine part time (weekends and some weeknights)

lol...its no fun if you pay some guy to do it for you...
I mean, I'm doing ALL of this myself, i work 8-5...get home and work till gone midnight on the car. I'm really trying to get the car back on the road really. Nearly there, only problem i've got is the connectors but thats easy if you have guys like Alex,Phil and the mysterious Mr Perriam on the case lol.
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE FIND OUT IF THE GTI ROD SHIFTER IS THE SAME AS A MK4 16V ONE??
