mine seems to vary, was roughly 180 miles to a tank till the inlet manifold gasget went and its since been all over the place, lowest was about 115-125 and this last tank has dun me proud at over 190, and i think theres just about enough to get to the petrol station, result!

Wow! It's because you drive like a granny! :D

Mine did something like 36mpg, not bad considering it was sitting at 5,000rpm or above for most of the trip. And still no complaints from it, considering the engine had been stood for a year or more outside and has over 110k on it I'm impressed. A good advert for not ragging a car from cold and regular oil changes in my opinion!
Aye, I was properly driving like a granny on the way back! :D On the way I was going pretty quick. Did 260 miles in 4 hours not including the food stop I made. Oh dear thats still not that fast really is it? :oops:

Just got round to putting all the fuel receipts I could find into a spreadsheet.. There's a few gaps but at least I had the presence of mind to put the mile reading onto each one when I filled up! It seems to have been pretty rubbish of late... maybe around the low 40s when the car was a bit younger, but it's mid 30s now! Possibly I'm driving harder, maybe it's just getting old, I dunno. Trying to be a bit more economical over the next couple tanks to see if it goes back up.

Worst recorded however is still only 29mpg :D

i can get an easy 100 miles off a tenner and that isnt driving like my nan either.

on my g i get 280-300 per tank - gt i used to average 40mpg normal driving too!!!!

both were well serviced cars... and lowish miles

Probably more like 300-400 in normal use depending on how hard it's ragged.

It's interesting seeing quite how much this varies by.. personally I used to do about 34mpg and it's gone up to around 38mpg recently after a bit of tlc (filters, plugs, leads, oil change, that sort of stuff).. but it's still really not that impressive for a 1.0.. not like I really hammer it about or anything, I tend to be quite gentle on it because of it's age..

I'm very impressed by those of you saying you get >300 miles to a tank.. how on earth do you do it?

In my 1 litre, I usually get about 300 miles to a tank of town driving and about 350+ of just motorway driving. My Ecotek valve improved this figure by about 30 extra miles.

If you have a 1 litre like me, you'll actually find that the 1.3 litre people get better fuel economy than us, as I often have to push my engine quite hard to keep up to speed with everyone else, where as the 1.3 engine is much less underpowered and therefore they will get slightly better economy, as they are not having to work as hard. As for motorways, again, the bigger engine will more economical as it is working a lot less harder than the puney 1 litre. I rely have to push mine quite hard on the motorway, just to keep up with everyone else, and especially on hills!

In addition, I only have a four speed box at the moment, so my engine will be revving higher than someone with a five speed box at the same speed.

Despite me being the proud owner of a 1 litre, I generally average around 35-40 mpg. I aint complaining at that :)

i tend to get 30-35 if i'm really caning it :) similar complaints to yours logik.... its a lot easier to trot along and keep pace at the lower speeds tho, there's a bit of a gap to jump when you're rolling along in a line that's doing 80, and suddenly you find yourself going up a hill your engine hasn't the wherewithal to do 80 up under any conditions!

wouldnt be too worried GC, the 1-litre carb isn't stunningly efficient - it's reasonably good in town but loses any advantage on most other counts. ahem. according to the figures in the manual anyway (trust em about as far as i can throw em).

Same with me. I don't drive around in a 1 litre by choice. I'm forced to because of the amount I have to pay for insurance, with me being only 18.

I was so close to dropping a 1.3 out of a MK2 Golf, but the insurance company just wouldn't have it.

I manaaged to get 23mpg out of my GT on a 200 mile round trip, but thats as bad as it gets. anyone got anything worse?

My feul needle doesn't go down to 0 on an empty tank, doh!

Hi all,

Have just run mine dry :cry: and I got 340 miles out of a full tank
thats all london driving its a 91 gt by the way
