I normally get to between 250 and 280 before chickening out and filling up! There's normally at least a gallon and a half left. I think I average 34-36mpg generally.
At the moment, around 220 Something's not right with it, though it's running like a dream at the moment.
Last year when it had a disconnected sump breather hose, I got 260 to a full tank (i.e. I ran dry, much to my surprise) and I rarely let it get below the 4 gallon indicator now.
If you go by the average figure you should be able to do 350ish miles to a tank on a standard gt. Thats about 40mpg.
I managed 48.5mpg in my blue gt which is standard at the mo apart from a decat downpipe on the way to and part of the way back from inters. This included having the car sat idling on full beam for half an hour while i put my tent up. I could have got 50 if I had tried a little harder, I wasnt dawdling either (on the way to inters anyway) I got 380 miles on about 35 litres so I could have done another 70-80 miles before I would have ran out.
200miles a tank is defo wrong tho, theres no way you could get economy that bad on a std gt unless theres summat wrong. You might have a knackered engine sensor causing the car to go into limp home mode (when it does this it richens the mixture alot and you cant do better or worse than 17mpg) Happens to GTs often, usually its the blue temperature sensor thats gone.
mine suddenly seems to be getting a lot worse on the fuel economy too Not sure what's going on I used to get at least 300miles out of a tank flooring it for the first bit and going easy for the last half, suddenly realising ive got to go and fill up, im really worried about my sensor now, because even when the engine should have warmed up the idle point is slightly higher than 1,000. But after a bit of revs or another 5/10mins it seems to go back to the proper idle point, but after that the idle can go back up agian.
Does this happen to you? with the idle point changing?

is there any way of testing this easily?
how much are new ones?
and are they hard to replace?
dread to think wot mine would do on a full tank, four gears, 80mph on da motorway, and an induction kit that makes me put my foot down harder, not alot me thinks! i even think mine may struggle to do 200miles of motorway driving!

Yes

No
Sorry, youll need a multimeter to test it. Remove the plug from it when the engine's cold and measure the resistance. It should read about 2000 ohms in this weather. Then warm the engine up to running temperature and measure it again. It should now read about 200 ohms. This is the most likely problem but the ecu relies on several sensors such as the afm, lambda probe and throttle position sensor. If any of these go wrong then then you will get the same symptoms. I replaced my blue temp sensor and my lambda probe before I realised it was my throttle position sensor.
This may be of some usse to you: http://www.polo-gt.co.uk/mechanical/eng ... iency.html

Dont worry, unless something is wrong your economy will never be that bad touch wood. Worst Ive ever done in my 1.3CL was 28mpg and that was on a 100 mile round trip and that was largely because it was horribe weather. So i had lights/heater/fan and rear window demister on (which I forgot to switch off)

Wow! It's because you drive like a granny!
Mine did something like 36mpg, not bad considering it was sitting at 5,000rpm or above for most of the trip. And still no complaints from it, considering the engine had been stood for a year or more outside and has over 110k on it I'm impressed. A good advert for not ragging a car from cold and regular oil changes in my opinion!
If your not sure if one of the sensors is faulty theres a good way of telling.
Put the car in 'Service mode' by getting the car warmed up properly and unplugging the blue temp sensor whilst running. The revs should raise from 950rpm to around 1100rpm and you will hear it increase. Plug it back in whilst still running and it should drop again to 950rpm.
If this works your sensors should be functioning correct. If you can't get that to happen it's likely one of the sensors is down.

Sounds familiar
Cheers for sorting my car out Dan much appreciated!
