If it's the cluster, probably cheaper to buy a used diesel cluster off eBay and recode it to your current car (ECU) and correct it for mileage. Where are you located? And which plug was it in the end?

The plug was 1J0 973 802

I am in Oxfordshire, was thinking of getting another cluster its just getting the mileage sorted out.
