Small update.

Pedal box is essential, it really unlocks the car. With the FSR box you start to get a car that feels close to a remapped Polo GTI (in terms of torque and response, not HP). I have it on sport with no additional correction and its perfect. I have no idea how it works, but it feels like magic and I hate the car with it turned off!

Just did a long journey with the box and pedal box, got 50mpg. This was a 50/50 mix of motorway and very hilly back roads (Pennines). Stop-start does not work as often as it does without the box. It still works, but seems to have stricter parameters than stock. More to follow next week.

Also, if you can, get to DTUK HQ, they are a great bunch, if not give them a ring, they all know there stuff and wont try and sell you snake oil/

Sounds good, but I'm a little concerned about this stop-start thing. Makes you wonder how many other 'details' DTUK might have overlooked... They may have a good explanation, though.

To be fair I don't think there is any deception going on here. It literally just the cold combined with a tiny increase in battery draw. It will sort it's self when the weather clears.

I still dont understand why theres different maps and correction settings if they cause issues if put to +3 which i would have assumed was to release all the power of the box? For example for my tsi would map 3 correction +3 not be the full 125bhp they state? How do you know which map gives the most performance increase? Im also guessing that if i ran it on +3 it may take a while for damage to happen? I guess there pros and cons whether its a map or a box though tbh.

On a mobile right now, but basically the corrections are adding .1 of a volt to the amount subtracted from the boost sensor, causing the turbo to work harder. If you reduce this voltage to far you over boost. Differnt engines react differently to this adjustment and will over boost at differnt levels. Temp, octane number and pressure will affect this also

Do you have any pics of the pedel box fitted or instructions? Was it a hard job or is it simple diy? Iv noticed DTuk have a deal on at the minute so may treat myself for xmas and give them ago. Was going to go Revo but after speaking to a mate that used my closest dealer been put off by issues he had.

DTUK have offered me an £80 forum discount, even though they're not on this forum. Total £465+VAT for tuning box & pedal box. Still hesitating, though...

As for Revo, their dealer in Kent did my Golf GTI about 5 years ago. He seemed a bit of a shyster, if I'm honest, and I really wasn't impressed with the remap. It felt as if someone had messed about with the engine... which I suppose was the case. I wrote to Revo about it, but apart from apologising, they didn't seem that concerned.

Fitting was stupidly easy. Pull the plug out the top of the accelerator, plug it into the box then plug the box back to the pedal. The box is the size of a matchbox.

If they will do that deal for me after xmas then i think my minds made up. My mate went to a vw specialist that deals with Revo for advice on a supercharger rebuild. They said it was find an didnt need doing. A week later bang. So they aint touching mine.

Never ever use these devices. It's manipulating 1 or 2 sensor's values only, and fcks up your engine.

Can you explain how that is differnt to a remap, with a source?

I've been running tuning boxes or remaps on all my cars for over 15 years, and I've covered nearly 500,000 miles in them.

I've never had a problem with either tuning solution.

Do your research, use a reputable remapper or box manufacturer, keep your car well maintained and you'll have little to worry about.

I suspect he might be confusing 'resistor mod' boxes with computer controlled boxes that work with the existing car map to alter certain parameters at certain times/conditions to increase things like boost, fuelling or timing etc to increase performance, much like a remap does.
