Andy Beats wrote: Mon Apr 26, 2021 1:51 pm Have I read right, that a brand new alloy is £243.00?
Is that 18"?
Seems really cheap, they charge more than that for an armrest.
If it's right I'd maybe consider that instead of a repair, just because it's more convenient swapping a tyre over than sending a wheel away.
Then sell the damaged one on ebay.

This site has the alloy listed for £243.50. When you contact them though it's upwards of £700.

The guy who repaired mine said a single Brescia would cost around £800 (think VW ask for that) so the £120 repair is looking even better now.

They’re advertised for sale on Volkswagen.co.uk website at £303 fitted or £271.80 supply only.

There’s probably a discount available if you ask; the parts department at the VW dealer I use have given me 10% discount on accessories in the past.

That's really interesting, someone on the Polo Owners page on Facebook said VW quoted him £800 for one alloy.

£240 for a whole new wheel is a pleasant surprise.
Feasible just getting a new alloy works out cheaper than a repair, once you sell the scuffed one.
£800 each is just the repair guy being a scaremongering fool.... :oops:

I would be surprised if £243 is the cost of a new alloy from VW. They tried charging me £1500 per corner for 17inch Parkers.

Around £240 - £270 sounds realistic when you put it into the context of the cost of the 19” version of Brescia alloys for a mk7 / mk7.5 Golf;

19” Brescia for the Golf;
Price on Volkswagen.co.uk - supply only; £409.80 per wheel.

https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners-and ... hine-gloss

Set of four 19” Brescia alloys from Kunzmann.de; €1,448 (works out to €362 each). Currently on offer at €1,396.44 (€349.11 each). Converting to £’s, normal price £1,260 (£315 each), special offer price £1,215 (£303.75 each). Shipping costs and import duties from Germany would need to be added.

£1,500 for one 17” Parker alloy would be daylight robbery. I would have told them ‘no thank you’ or something a little less polite! Could that £1,500 figure have been for a set of four rather than a single wheel? Some of the most expensive genuine VW alloys are the 19” semi forged flow formed Pretoria alloys for the mk7 Golf R - usually around £800 a wheel. Kunzmann.de are advertising sets of genuine VW 19” Pretoria alloys at €3,213.15 for a set of four. That makes the price of £1,500 for one 17” Parker alloy a joke IMHO.

I gave them a call a while back when I got my alloys swapped over and the shop carved a groove about 2mm deep around the entire alloy, so I called VW asked for the quote for a single 17inch Parker, they asked my reg and gave me that figure back. In the end I sold my original set for £400 and left it at that. I was never going to pay that for an oem set when there are some really good aftermarket options for less. I suppose the person on the phone might have been the usual incompetent VW employee and they probably did quote for a set.

Jeez, unless they just successfully sold you a set of magic beans, that price is ridiculous.

There was a very early thread for the GTI here where someone had scuffed their 18" Brescias and had found a place selling them directly (I believe it was the contracted manufacturer, not through VW parts network) for about £245 a piece back in late 2018. £243 sounds about right. 18" wheels are not hugely exotic these days.
