Get the sensor from VW. GSF sensors are absolute s**t.
Its about £24 I think from the last time I bought one
If you follow the top radiator hose to the engine youll see the green sensor on the left.

The second one
Get a new seal with it too (like 40p)
Change it with the engine cold, and be sure to top the coolant back up afterwards

£35 later...
Gonna go fit it now. Head tech at vw says it won't fit it as its probably an immobiliser issue which me nor the parts guy can see as it starts first time Every time when the engines cold.

Prepare the new sensor first - put the oring on the bronze bit
Unplug the sensor, slide the U shaped clip out pull the old sensor out and put the new sensor in as quick as you can or youll lose a reasonable amount of coolant.
Its not an immobiliser issue - its a common fault that when the engine is hot, if the temp sensor fails, it wont restart till cooled
B*llocks to that being an immobiliser issue. Idiot of a head tech

Just going to my mums where the car is now to put coolant back in. Then il run it up an down the dual carriage way and give it a try
And yeah that what me and the parts guy were saying the car wouldn't start at all if it was an immobiliser issue, told the guy he was talking s**t, flipping nonce. Once again mr Perkins thanks my cars existence is down to you lol

Keep an eye on that coolant now. It'll go down over the next few days.
If you haven't already run the fans on full heat and go for a drive, it'll open up the thermostat. You'll need to top up further then.
