100% agree with this, especially if you've already waited 5-6 months, whats another 3 weeks at this stage? Speak to your dealer, see what they can do to delay at this point aka not register the car until Sept.monkeyhanger wrote: Tue Aug 11, 2020 1:35 pmIf yiu're buying it to keep rather than PCPing to chop in later, I'd wait for the new plate now - it'll be worth £1000-1500 more in private sale down the line on a 70 plate rather than a 20 plate.jackwhittle760 wrote: Tue Aug 11, 2020 9:41 amI’ve not had my stage 6 notification yet however my dealer says my car is at Sheerness UK port. Re: Delivery/Tracking
Anybody on the Glovis Century?
It’s made it’s trip from Dakar to Vigo, Portugal and is around an hour or two away from the port.
Where’s the next port from Vigo, Portugal? Does it now go directly to Emdem, Germany and how long does it usually stay at the port it’s just arrived at for?
On a side note, why does it have to go to Germany, Emdem when it’s literally passing the UK to get to Germany

Don’t know which ports Glovis Century calls at between Vigo and Emden - sorry.MrTomOates wrote: Wed Aug 12, 2020 9:18 am Anybody on the Glovis Century?

As to why they go to Emden - I think that Emden is effectively used as a massive transit hub. Cars from overseas factories will be dropped off there for the next stage of their journey, and Glovis Century will no doubt be loaded with cars already at Emden, to be transported to subsequent stops on its route once it leaves Emden.
I’ve also read that there’s some form of quality checking of cars once they get to Emden - don’t know if it’s all cars or some form of check on randomly selected vehicles. If checks are undertaken at Emden, I’m assuming it’s to check for things such as transit damage, rather than any form of quality checking procedure, as all cars should’ve been QC’d at the final stage of the build process just before they leave the factory and before being loaded onto the vehicle carrying vessel for shipment.

Re: Delivery/Tracking
^ Emden docking might be part of some EU importation tax avoidance scheme also. Cars built outside the EU are supposed to be subject to a 10% importation tariff. If Emden can do a few checks and perhaps bolt a few parts on (maybe only even the VW badge on the front grille!), they may be able to avoid the tariff by claiming it was (partially) manufactured in the EU.

Re: Delivery/Tracking
I reckon you must all be looking at 70 plates based on this progress, we are only just over 2 weeks or so until 1st September, the dealers will be getting a stock of cars and PDI work to be ready for Monday 31st August and the traditional midnight opening to collect them? (Maybe not any more with Covid the cheese and wine receptions in the showrooms?). Can't see anyone collecting one around the 24th to 28th August seems pointless. 18 days to go.

Re: Delivery/Tracking
Ordered my new R Line last week. I’m a little lucky as it was from pre ordered stock. Got the 8 digit tracking code this morning.
App states in transit stage 5.
I am assuming on a boat.
How’s best to find the boat details? I just tried the Help Chat through the VW website and they said they wouldn’t give that info out?
Do you think I just try again and get someone different?

Re: Delivery/Tracking
Your dealer should be able to tell you the boat. My dealer gave me the boat information from South Africa to emden and also from emden to the Ukbrainbow wrote: Thu Aug 13, 2020 11:50 am Ordered my new R Line last week. Re: Delivery/Tracking
I contacted the dealer today. They said the manager has access to the ‘boat portal’
Unfortunately this manager is off til Saturday but they will then get the details for me.
The sales girl I’m dealing with thinks it’s hilarious I want to track it. Guessing she’s not had to factory order herself a polo!
My original 2018 R Line took 6 months and that’s seems short now from I’m reading!

You’re so lucky
I spoke to dealer who told me car still at status 30 after 4 weeks which means it’s still sitting in SA waiting to be allocated a ship. Looks like even a September delivery may be missed and waiting into the 9 month

Re: Delivery/Tracking
That’s really strange. I’ve been a bit over the top with checking ships and I think despite potentially every ship working it’s way around each port in South Africa, they’ve been pretty much direct to each port without what could seem as delay. Other than that I’ve found that there’s a lot of South African RoRo Vessels which carry at least 5,000 cars at time, not too sure on the percentage of them being VW because I’ve heard that there’s a mix between Porsche, Audi and Mercedes that are on these type of ships but surely if your car has been waiting to be allocated a ship it should have one by now.Ima wrote: Fri Aug 14, 2020 12:06 pm You’re so luckyI spoke to dealer who told me car still at status 30 after 4 weeks which means it’s still sitting in SA waiting to be allocated a ship. Have you just on the off chance tried contacting Live Chat on the VW website? I’ve contacted them and we’re contacted to a woman who found out absolutely everything for me, such as; when the car were finished with build, when it left South Africa, which ship it had been allocated and what day and time it was going to leave and even when it’s estimated to be delivered to Emden, Germany.
It’s worth a shot, some people have reported back to the forum that they didn’t get any information back but with a little push and the right person will definitely lighten your situation.
Let us know!

Yes it is strange and intensely frustrating now. I tried VW last week and was brushed off back to dealer but I shall try again. I shall let you know if I get anywhere

Re: Delivery/Tracking
Well I called Customer Services who could see there was an update after all but felt my dealer should be doing the feedback and asked my dealer to call me. Unsurprisingly they didn’t so I contacted dealer again to tell them there is an update so tell me what it was. I had a short email to say they had checked their system and it was not allocated a ship and that’s all they could do. Feeling brassed off I contacted customer services who were able to tell me it is on a ship and a week away from Emden so only another 4 weeks after that for delivery. It was then down to me to tell my dealer what is happening to my car. The dealer isn’t doing much for a 5 star review from me. I’ve never had such little interest from a dealer before. Sours the experience but happy the car is actually on the way.

And in my frustration I forgot to ask what ship it’s on. Any ideas? MrTomOates is it on the same as yours

Re: Delivery/Tracking
I think Tom’s car is on the Glovis Century.
@Ima - I think many salespeople lose interest once they’ve got you to sign on the dotted line. When I bought my current car, it was probably the poorest car buying experience I’ve had. I wasn’t asked for feedback or to rate the dealer on that occasion - with hindsight, I should have provided feedback voluntarily.
By way of contrast, with the car prior to that (mk6 Golf GTD). it was the best car buying experience I’ve had - really good salesperson who gave me regular (at least fortnightly or more frequent) updates throughout my 8 month wait for the car, and they continued to contact me during the first few weeks of ownership to check how I was getting on with the car and if i had any issues. Needless to say, I gave a good review which reflected the buying experience and the service I’d received.
